I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, but it is a test, right? xD

Anyways, long story short, I've lived in the US and Canada for the past 9 years. I don't have a green card, and I'm here on a H4 visa. Some colleges list TOEFL tests for students that weren't born in the US. I wasn't. Do I need to take it?

Some colleges list SAT CR scores as a legitimate source instead of TOEFL tests. Anyone know what scores are passing or beyond? Thanks :D

well most schools don’t require the toefl if you have been attending to an american school for the past 3 years.
but the number differs from school to school or some schools may require you to take it anyway
since you’re an international student u should go to the school’s website
and go to the admissions for international students.

umm maybe i misunderstood when you said the thing about the visa
if you have citizenship, then you wouldn’t have to apply as an international or
take the toefl
:)

In other words, without citizenship (or permanent resident status), you’re considered an international no matter how many years you’ve lived in the U.S.

For students not born in the U.S.? Which college in particular is this coming from? A lot of students are not born in the United States but have no problem with the language whatsoever. In fact, since you’ve been in an English speaking country for nine years already, you definitely don’t need to take the TOEFL test:) (Unless you were horrendous on the SAT CR, but I really doubt that.)

Aws. So I suppose I’ll be applying international. Is the only difference between int. and regular the financial forms? Anything else on the apps?

At a lot of schools internationals do not get a significant amount of financial aid:( And it’s a lot harder to get into your dream college because each one only allot a certain number of spots to international students. Depending on the school though… I only know all of this because my family didn’t have green card several years ago either and we were worrying about the same thing. It sucks.

If you’re applying via the common application, I know there’s a supplement that you may have to fill out, but other than that I have no ideas. You’ll probably have to complete a few more forms than the domestic students in general.

you don’t need to send TOEFL score, as you have studied so long in US school…Your secondary school report from US school would prove everything…
