Tofu--Love it? Hate it? Don't really care?

^ and tofu desserts. Yummy

Do you guys just cube it and throw it in sauces or what?

I’m a vegetarian. I don’t like tofu for the most part. Too spongy… weird texture.

My Chinese “grandmother” used to make really good soup that was like vegetarian chicken noodle with tofu. She passed away before I could ask her for the recipe.

^ Then what do you usually have as a substitute for meat and otherwise? (I often wonder about vegetarian diets, there’s so much meat in everything)

“[T]here’s so much meat in everything” → ?

There is no such thing called ‘Raw Tofu’ if you know how Toufu is made.

How can you like something that doesnt taste like anything? Its slimy and they like to use it instead of meat.

@hanana- I don’t use a meat substitute. I get protein and iron plenty of other ways. I have to get my blood checked every 6 months because I’m anemic (and have been since way before I was a vegetarian) and I’ve never been low in anything other than iron and b12 (again, as I was long before I was a vegetarian… my levels have actually gone up quite considerably since I became a vegetarian. I no longer need as many b12 shots).

Meat is easy to avoid if you’re a vegetarian. My mum, boy, and I generally all get vegetarian dishes when we eat out (but I’m the only vegetarian). They just really don’t care for meat that much. Plus, each dish you get without meat saves almost half the price :). For example, we get cheese pizza instead of pepperoni. We get marinara or alfredo pasta instead of meat sauce. Salads are obviously the easiest to make vegetarian.

Really, there is no shortage to what we can eat. Unless meat is the main course of your meal, you can generally sub anything.

I have lived in two different countries, 4 different states, and traveled quite extensively since I became a vegetarian. I have never really had an issue with any restaurant except for one that exclusively sells hot dogs and hamburgers. Only my dad eats there now though.

FWIW- my fiance likes tofu with barbecue sauce lol. I didn’t tell him it was tofu and he found it quite enjoyable. He now eats it far more than I do.
