I have really enjoyed Bobby Finke, Caeleb Dressel , and Suni Lee. Enjoyed women’s soccer more than I thought I would . I enjoy watching things like volleyball, basketball, football, baseball , some tennis and golf the most in general in real life. Swimming, track and field, gymnastics, rowing, etc. are things I don’t follow but are more interesting to me at the Olympics. What about you?

Cross Country was exciting to watch, but NBC’s commercials left a lot to be desired, as did some of what Japan’s cameraman decided to focus on.

60 started, 49 finished.

US Team is in 5th, but very low chance for a medal. The Brits should have this one and they deserve it IMO. Very good riding.

NBC news announced that Simone has pulled out of the floor exercise. That’s probably because she has twisting moves in her floor routine.

I watched a tail end of the team triathlon and found it very enjoyable. Swimming, track, rowing, gymnastics, water polo, soccer! What I did NOT enjoy was the BMX racing.

What? Am I the only one who stayed up to see the American win the gold for golf?

I must be crazy.

Another crazy person who watched the golf!

The golf sounded exciting! A seven person playoff for bronze? Wow!

Those gymnastics finals were an absolute mess. They really need to start allowing touch warm ups for finals before they get somebody seriously injured. I’m so sad for Jade, and the wobbly bars that were adjusted after Suni likely played a role in her poor (for her) performance today.

Regarding the USA Today opinion piece on swimmer Michael Andrew supposedly violating masking protocol, the piece reads like a 3-year-old throwing a tantrum. Not the least bit professional, which would suggest the author has some sort of unstated motive.

And bingo. Christine Brennan had already written 2 hit pieces on the swimmer earlier in July. Andrew was the only one of 100+ unvaccinated US athletes that publicly disclosed his vaccination status, and also tipped his political leaning, which is obviously against Brennan’s. So Brennan criticized his vaccination decision in one piece, and whined in the second piece because the swim coach wouldn’t reveal Andrew’s roommate situation in Tokyo.

In Brennan’s latest takedown of Andrew, she tries to get him in trouble because he didn’t mask up during an interview. But she fails to mention two key points. Andrew had natural immunity through infection in December (which the IOC recognizes as valid), and lost training time. In Andrew’s assessment, wether you agree or disagree, vaccination didn’t provide further benefit, and could likely reduce valuable training time. Also, the athletes are under strict protocol, which includes daily testing.

Brennan has clearly been stalking Andrew, antagonizing and ready to pounce on him. And she doesn’t appear to have a problem with stalking. She is the person that explicitly blamed sports journalist Erin Andrews for the incident where Andrews was stalked, and victimized by the stalker when he cut a hole in her hotel wall, took a nude video of Andrews, and posted it on the internet.

Brennan is a “sports” reporter with an agenda.

Footage didn’t show what happened - whether it was a bad step or a bad fence or whatever. Regardless, it’s always rough losing a buddy. It’s like losing a pet you spend a lot of time with.

Christine Brennan is an opinion columnist. Her job is not a reporter but a columnist. She doesn’t report but gives her opinion as a columnist.

2 different jobs for newspaper writers.

Love or hate Ms. Brennan, her job is to give a side on an issue. You don’t agree, that’s ok. She has lots of opinions that people don’t agree with.

I don’t always agree with Christine Brennan , but she always makes me think about an issue.

My opinion about Michael Andrew. There were rules, it didn’t matter what he thought of the rules. The team is in a different country which has their own set of rules and a set of rules for this competition. All the other members of the USA team have respected and followed the rules. Except for one.

I don’t particularly want to get in a debate. You have an opinion, you gave it. I have one also and I gave mine. I would appreciate that the debate stops. I won’t respond again as I’m happy where I am right now.

I didn’t notice swimmers with “cupping” marks on their torsos at this Olympics. I wonder if it was a fad that had peaked for the Rio games.

I noticed that, too. Likely, several factors: a fad that did not live up to the expectations and limited number of support staff allowed to attend the games. Can’t slap those cups on my own back even if I tried hard! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It was a fad, although the alt-science had filtered all the way down to age group “B/C” meets. Nothing like seeing 10 yo’s with poor technique, cup marks and oversized tech suits :woman_facepalming:

The little kids in tech suits - I mean, really.

I am watching a live stream of our county rec league finals right now. The 7-8 year olds have ‘em.

Cray cray.

Tech suits! There was an explosion of those at our summer league meets after the 2000 Olympics! Some crazy team parents who decided that team suit had to be a sharkskin suit were partially to blame for that in my neck of the woods. There was nothing like paying mandatory $100 for a tiny piece of fabric that would disintegrate after one meet!
