TB12 is a Tampa Bay Buc, Hard for those words to come out of my mouth. Grew up 5 minutes from what was Schaefer Stadium (Now Gillete - albeit a new stadium). Live in Tampa for the past 27 yrs. You couldn’t POSSIBLY describe two different organizations in virtually every way. Discipline, self policing, determination, will to win, etc. I guess the word is CULTURE. Hard to believe TB12 will be happy in a world so foreign to his winning ways. Maybe that’s the point, he wants to change the culture in TB. Doesn’t have much time left to do that.
On the field they immediately get better. They will definitely sell more tix and get more prime time games. I see why they want it. Don’t see why TB wants it. Lots of warm weather teams so that’s not it. Personally I thought he’d join Gruden at the Raiders. Talk about two workaholics. The Bucs are definitely not that.
Wonder how my Brady hating Bucco fans are today. I bet actually pretty happy as Jameis Winston is a proven Box of Rocks that will never improve. Can’t imagine any team winning with him at the pro level. No discipline at all.
Good luck TB12. I will so miss those days but thatnks for the memories, and here’s to creating some new ones. Haven’t watched a Bucs game in many years. I’ll probably tune in to check it out.
@rickle1 as a NY fan ( clearly) its hard for me to admit to anything positive about Boston sports ( love the town), love going to Fenway, but hate the SAWX…that said I cant deny you that BRADY IS THE GOAT!!
Montana went to the chiefs, Namath to the Bills, Farve to the Jets AND the Vikes…Jeter of course retired in pinstripes
@NYYFanNowMTdad As a lifelong SAWX fan in every respect, I have to admit I loved watching Jeter play. Total class act. What a clutch player. All those QBs should have retired with their original team. Nothing else to prove, certainly not for the GOAT. I’ll never forget the awesome moments he gave me with my son. Fall off the couch screaming moments (kind of like when Tiger made that put on 16 at Augusta!)
Now I just sing show tunes with my daughter, and that’s a blast too! Sometimes I ask her, " So kiddo, how many Dad’s do you think are humming a tune from Miss Saigon right now?" I find myself doing that all the time.
I love this thread! As a mom who LOVES NFL, I am usually the odd one but my husband also sings some show tunes himself.
I have to admit, I am not too fond of Brady or the Patriots, but I think that is probably true for anyone who is not a Patriots fan. I am interested to see how he does with a new team and such a different one at that. Part of me wants him to rock to take away some of Belichick’s pride. Sorry!
Brady can actually be made relevant to the MT page. He never got “the lead” (starting QB) in high school. He “auditioned” and was passed over for just about every college team. His “audition notes” were released online. Very unimpressed adjudicators. He clawed his way to becoming a “swing” (back up behind the back up QB) for the Patriots. When a fluke injury brought him on to the field. Instead of focusing on every critic that had told him he wouldn’t be good enough, he didn’t “Throw Away His Shot” and won his first Super Bowl. He was never the strongest, fastest, or most talented player on the field but he made it happen through sheer force of will.
The NFL season has some interesting storylines developing already (once it kicks off)
– An already solid 49ers side with two first round draft picks
– Can the Ravens and Vikings finish stronger this year, with the former adding Calais Campbell and both teams having five draft picks in the first three rounds?
– Do the Chiefs successfully defend title (last happened in 2004)?
– A Bradyless Patriots squad with an “additional” top #100 draft pick (4)
– What can Arians / Bowles accomplish with Brady?
– What can Reich accomplish with Rivers?
– Who will the Charges select as their QB? Herbert?
– I’m sad that the Raiders left Oakland (just not the same to me) but interesting pick-ups of Cory Littleton, Nick Kwiatkoski, Maliek Collins, Carl Nassib, Jeff Heath and Eli Apple on defense and vet Jason Witten on offense
– The Browns surprising with additions of Jack Conklin, Austin Hooper and Andy Janovich (already)
– Can Vrabel build off a strong finish to last season?
– Can Rivera reconstruct the Redskins (expected to take more than a year) and will the team select Chase Young?
– The headscratching move by O’Brien to move on from DeAndre Hopkins for talented but overpriced David Johnson? Does anyone have insight on this?
– All the talented WRs in this year’s draft – who will pan out and who will flop?
– Which NFL teams will surprise this year?
Alright! Love the football board. Seems like forever since I made the trek to Miami to watch my Chiefs come back and beat the 49ers in epic fashion. 50 years of frustration were washed away that night, and I’m hoping we got another one in us next year.
@Twelfthman – great summary of the storylines. In addtion to what you documented here, a few others come to mind:
– What can Jarrett Stidham do in NE under Belichick? [I hate the Pats, but as a die hard Auburn fan, I’m rooting for Stidham]
– Will either Jameis Winston or Cam Newton be NFL starters when the season begins?
– How will Miami do with the nation’s most expensive secondary? Can they afford to also add Chris Jones from KC?
– Will KC make ANY moves in FA? SB teams usually aren’t overly active in FA, but it’s weird not seeing any activity given our cap situation
– Will the Chargers be the best defense in the NFL? Will Tyrod Taylor show everyone that he’s truly a starter in the league?
– How will Darius Slay do in Philly? Who will be the beast from the East? Cowboys with new coaching staff or Philly when healthy?
–Who will be the Bears starting QB week 1? Trubisky or Foles?
^ that whole thing was such a big nothing burger! When asked about it virtually every QB (they asked) said they like a certain feel (inflate, deflate, etc). They all do it, every game. Was handled very poorly.
@rickle1 – 1) Agree that Deflategate was totally overblown (no pun intended), but 2) Spygate was SO much worse than the NFL reported. They knew it would really hurt the league after everything was uncovered, so they swept it under the rug. So say confidential NFL office insiders anyway.
