I'm looking at Rice University, among other universities, and quite a few universities accept a score of 4 or 5 on (almost) any AP test - minus a few high schools like HYPS.

Currently I have a the following AP scores:
Biology (5)
Chemistry (5)
Calc AB (5)
Lang. and Comp (5)
US Hist (4)

My senior year schedule has 8 AP classes. So, hypothetically, if I were to do well on all my AP tests senior year (4 or 5), would I get credit for every class? That seems like a lot of credits. Or is there some sort of cutoff for how many credits you can get?

A lot of schools don’t give credit at all and just give you placement in higher classes. Others will only let you choose a couple to get credit for. Others will just bump you up to sohpomore status XD

You can find the “credit by examination” policy for each school somewhere on the website for each school. It’s worth doing. There is considerable variation. Potentially, it could make a difference in which school you choose!

You will know which school you are going to attend before it is time to take the exams. Some people choose not to bother taking their exams, even if they’ve taken the courses, because the AP exam scores won’t make a difference one way or the other.

My kid chose a school that is very generous with AP credit and saw she could get 6 credits and satisfy a gen ed requirement AND a requirement in her major if she got a 4 or 5 on the AP US History exam. She hadn’t taken US history AP but she thought she could remember enough US History with some exam prep books to get by…so she signed up for the test, and it paid off.

At Harvard, you could apply for Advanced Standing (with at least four 5’s) and graduate a year early. Also, could you post the names of the AP Tests that you’re taking? It would be easier.

Every school is different - and often departments within thesame university have different policies. Some school limit your credit to a semester. others limit it even more. There are several school that will offer you sophomore standing. If have to look it up on each school’s website.

The AP classes I’ll be taking next year are:

AP Lit and Comp
AP Physics B
AP Environmental Science
AP Statistics
AP Government
AP Microeconomics
AP Macroseconomics
AP Calc II (esentiallly Calc BC, but it covers a bit more material)
