tons of b's. wellesley?

i'm thinking english. maybe history. yes, surroundings isn't a major factor for me. NYC would be amazing, but the environment won't be the deciding issue. does anyone know any safety colleges w/ good eng judging from my stats?

If you apply EE you will get either a likely, possibly, or unlikely letter from Wellesley in, like, late March.

A likely means you are in the top pool of applicants and will most likely be accepted.

A possibly means you might get in. Torture, I know. I don't have the actual numbers of the girls who received a possibly letter and were later admitted, but if you check the Wellesley forum and go way back to April, you might be able to scrounge up a thread that would give you a better idea. I know there is one, but it may take some digging to find it.

An unlikely means just that. Very few people get accepted if they've received an unlikely EE letter. However, it has been done! You might also be put on the waitlist.

Ok, well, I hope that clarified the EE/EV confusion. I am a Wellesley '09er so if you have any questions about anything feel free to get ahold of me. I actually leave in exactly 2 weeks for W.. yay! Oh, and if you want to talk to other W girls, find us on MySpace or LJ. We've got a group/community going at both sites. Good luck!

I believe the environment matters a lot. You'll be staying at that one particular school for four years. You either like the campus or you hate it or you can live with it. You don't want to be at a campus that you hate because you'll be living there for four years of life.

As for why I'm against ED, my Career Guidance Counselor recommends not applying ED. She specializes in applying to colleges for my highschool's seniors. People change and as I said before senior year is a year of maturity. Unless you're positively sure that in 8 months you'll still feel just as convicted as you are now - then go for it. ED limits you and confines you to one school only. You never get to see your boundaries. Many of my friends actually are grateful that they don't get in ED because they get into better schools than what they've ED'ed at. They had under-estimated themselves. The thing with ED is I believe most people feel that if they apply ED it's easier to get in - it's really not. The pool of applicants are just condensed and more qualified than the general pool. If you can get in regular you can get in early. It's simple. Their standards are the same, it doesn't change.

Might get some merit aid at schools like Bowdoin or Holy Cross. Holy Cross has better location -35 minutes west of Wellesley and while the schools are different there is much more school spirit at a coed school like Holy Cross or Dartmouth.

Yeah! Or Mount Holyoke.. woops I forgot how to spell it. I know a couple of people who've turned down Wellesley for it.

does anyone know any cons to wellesley? the all girls' factor doesn't bother me and so far alumni have told me wellesley is a nice town and boston isn't that far away. i appreciate it, you guys rock. so helpful!

Just out of curiousity. Why do you want to apply to Wellesley? If you don't know anything about it?...

But anyways - Wellesley is pretty far way from Boston. The bus's come infrequently and not only that but it takes about an hour to go anywhere, not just Boston but other colleges in general. My friend went there for summer camp and told me that it is actually very isolated. If you look at a map, you'll see that Wellesley is pretty much it's own little town. And even though Wellesley has perks of cross-registration, most people actually never take classes at other schools.

i do know about it. i've done research and talked to alumni. just certain iffy stuff like EV and EA things confuse me. i just wanted to know some cons, which is hard b/c so far everyone seems to like it a lot. do you personally not like wellesley...?

thanks, aal0ha. those cons seem bearable. i live in a small town that's kind of isolated so hopefully it won't be an issue.

par-Bowdoin doesnt give merit aid.

haha. Sorry I get pretty sarcastic some times. But yeah, good luck! I'm sure you'll do fine. :] So I take it you're going to ED at Wellesley and RD at NYU. :]

thanks, you too! i think ED or EA at wellesley, RD at NYU and i'm starting to look at a major reach, brown....

but thanks again to all of you guys. i don't really know anything about mt. holyoke, bowdoin, etc. but i'll look into them. who knows? you guys might tip me off to my dream college.
