<p>Erm..why so many? If you do schools with the common app, you only need one personal statement. You can recycle essays ya know. If you want to do the optional essay, you can add that in. That's two...your little 150 word statements don't really count as essays...And then, if you apply to other schools without the common app, that's a couple more. 15 essays only apply if you do lots of scholarships. Regarding time spent on each - maybe 1 or 2 hours for me.</p>
<p>I agree with Divany - it's really not that bad if they're all Common App schools (if they aren't, it can be a pain...UChicago and Stanford were a lot of extra work for some students). It is really time consuming though to make it perfect, as you go through 20 drafts, and the first draft is pretty tough to write. I've seen some good sample ones that might help to get started at <a href="http://www.ivyadmits.com%5B/url%5D">www.ivyadmits.com</a> but they're all so personal that it seems like it just takes some creative inspiration to get going.
