I was just joking with a friend about this, but seriously. Aside from being seemingly in the middle of nowhere, it's a nice new campus! The profs are apparently wonderful (I don't think we have a shortage on great professors, though), and well.. yea..

Why not?

Makes me wish I had applied there. It would've been a nice alternative to Davis :)

I kinda wishd I had applied there in hs, cuz i remember ppl get “deals” from merced like, “garunteed 2 yr transfer to UC Berkeley, if you maintain atleast a 3.0 gpa” if i had applied there and gotten that and went there, I wouldn’t have to deal with all this anxiety right now ><

A nice alternative to Davis? I’m starting to wish I could trade my UCSD acceptance for acceptance to Davis now that me and my girlfriend got together. She’s going to Davis. And Davis is a great school.

wwlink, I think Davis is an awesome school. The enviroment there does remind me of UCM. Its like Davis had a baby and called it Merced :)

UCM is nice. Its still growing, but theres a lot going on there already with green tech research. If I end up at UCM, I’ll do my part to help it become a strong Engineering school. Unlike other schools getting lots of classes cut and becoming overcrowded, UCM still has a 25:1 student faculty ratio and no problem getting classes needed (from what current students have told me). My friend at UCLA says its hard to get into classes for her major (civil eng.) and the teachers aren’t helpful. I know can open a lot of doors, but I really believe its up to the individual to seek out opportunities and make things happen.

i bet if you talk to merced admissions, they’d let you in. they contacted me last year and offered a full ride in JULY when i didn’t even apply there. almost took it too. so if you’re serious, try.

BUT they didn’t tell me about the deal where I could have just gone to merced for a year or 2 and then transfer after that!! i wish i would have known…

@shellbelltaylor, I guess I like to look at the glass half full :)

@wwlink, did you only apply to UCD?

Oh and about the profesors at UCM there are a lot of them that come from really respectable schools; like Professor of Engineering Martha H. Conklin that got her B.S. and Ph.D from Caltech. (<a href=“School of Engineering”>School of Engineering)

My friend that is at U Penn working on his Ph.D has been encouraging me to go to UCM. He said it has a lot of potential and the access to faculty with strong backgrounds could be very beneficial if you get rec. letters from them.

i got a packet in the mail, detailing the conditions and terms of the complete scholarship from Merced, and then it was just sitting in my kitchen (i didn’t really think about it too much at first) and then admissions called me a couple days later and asked me if I received it, and basically tried to sell the idea of going there to me. in the letter, they said they wanted to increase the number of “outstanding student body” or something like that, and basically wanted to better their reputation. I sent in the paperwork to confirm it, but later changed my mind (for a variety of reasons actually). They kept calling and leaving messages and one day finally stopped (even after classes had begun!).
