Too crazy sophmore year?

So would this just be suicide?

AP bio
AP chem
AP English Lang
AP euro
AP comp gov
AP environmental
honors math 10
honors Spanish 4

I'm signed up for the first 4 APs at school but comp and environmental would be self studies. I've already taken 2 APs this year (computer science and USH) and didn't find them very difficult. Your take on trying this?

That’s pretty cool that your school has you guys do AP Lang as sophomores. The schedule is certainly doable, although it is easier said than done to do one self-study, let alone two.

haha, you’re probably very smart
but i wouldn’t take that many AP classes in one year
you’ll have so much stuff to do that you might not be able to do as well as you might have in some of the other classes
but…if you think you can handle it, best of luck!!

Depends how much you can memorize. Euro is exactly like USH, Environmental is just memorizing as is Biology. Chem is one of the hardest AP classes if your not very good at conceptual stuff. If you try to memorize Chem your setting yourself up to fail.

My schedule was:
Physics
AP Euro
AP Lang
AP Chem
Honors Pre-Calc/Trig
AP Bio

and it was definitely doable but you won’t have a life. I only got to hang out on fridays, and sometimes saturdays. Pity me. :(

It’s only sophomore year. If you’re going to/taken 8 APs, what are you going to do junior and senior year? Take every AP in existence? I say drop either Bio or Chem. Bio is a ton of memorization and you already have plenty of memorization intense courses. If you’ve never taken chem before, chem ap is going to be a nightmare. And maybe drop a self study. You need some breathing room…

chem and bio are jokes. so is comp gov, envsci, honors math and spanish.
looks like a pretty average schedule.

Uh, Chemistry and Bio AP are not jokes. Some of you guys are making this schedule sound much easier than it really will be. Those ap classes are all very hard. I’d suggest dropping one science, preferably Bio.

^ Bio took me about 10 hours of studying on saturday and sunday combined this weekend and I feel comfortable for a 5 (and my teacher sucked ass). Not bad if you ask me.

Chem on the other hand I can’t really talk much about b/c my teacher was great and I’m scoring 5s without much prep. Doesn’t seem that hard IMO if you take the class. Kids with 75% in the class are getting 4s.

Well, my school does not actually let most people take AP lang as a sophmore. I don’t want to sound like an arrogant prat, but I was accelerated a year above my peers but still not being grade skipped.

What about switching out AP micro/macro for euro and only self studying environmental? Would that make it easier? I really want to have 6 AP tests next year because my goal is to get AP National Scholar by next year.

Don’t do that to yourself sophomore year!

Overloading on AP’s won’t make up for other weak areas of your resume. I suggest focusing on other things your Sophomore year.

okay AP Biology is a lot of memorization. if you truly have the time to take this go ahead, but I suggest you take it next year only because you’ll have more “breathing room” and AP Chemistry will only be able to help you in AP Biology if you take the two one year after another.

AP Chemistry is a pretty difficult course for those who have not taken chemistry before. And since this is your sophomore year schedule, I imagine that you have not taken chemistry yet. It’s not by any means impossible, but you may have difficulty grasping the subject. But if you are as intelligent as you seem to be, it should not be much of an obstacle.

AP English Language and Composition is just a skills test. I like to think of it as a harder version of the SAT Reading Comprehension section combined with the SAT Essay section. So basically, if you do not do very well on those two sections of the SAT, you will have much difficulty with the AP test itself. The class, however, is an entirely different story. The class won’t seem like an AP preparation course at all. It’ll just be another english course. So in terms of the workload, it’ll depend on your school, but the test will be a harder version of the SAT regardless.

AP European History, in my opinion, is an easier history course than the United States History course. It covers a larger span of time, but as a result, the questions will not be as detail oriented as the APUSH questions. Although it may be hard to keep track of the names and events, since you did not have too much trouble with APUSH, I believe you should be fine with APEH test.

I don’t have any say on AP Computer Science AB, however, so that will be up to you.

AP Environmental Science is really a common sense course, for a science kid anyway. I assume you are pretty confident / strong in the sciences since you plan on taking AP Biology and AP Chemistry, so you’re performance on this exam should not be much different from your performance on AP Chemistry.

If my assumptions that you are very intelligent, good at time managament, and actually plan to enjoy to classes you plan to take are not accurate, however, I would say to lay off some of the AP courses. (I make these assumptions because of your participation in the AP program as a freshman in high school and your selection of difficult courses.)

Some students believe they can do everything although the predecessors have continuously shown that sometimes the impossible takes too much time. Be wise in your decisions and realize that there is more to education that what classes you take and how you do on the AP courses.

Think of your interests man.

@Jersey13: I’m not exactly weak on the application part…I’m ranked in the top 30 in the nation for my favorite sport and I’m an Eagle Scout and involved in a lot of other leadership around my school and community

@BlizzardPenguin: I’m taking a biology teacher this year, and I really like it. Plus, I’m pretty good at memorizing stuff. You’re right, I haven’t taken a chemistry course, but I’ve read a lot about it…I used to like to read about ionic bonds in 5th grade :stuck_out_tongue: I’m really thinking about trying to self study those two courses…I think AP Environmental would go hand-in-hand with bio. And I really like government, too. And as for AP Lang, I got a 740 CR (I missed 3) and an 11 essay this year, so I’m not bad at those types of tests.

Comp. Gov. and Env. Sci. are pretty useless self studies. Your other 4 are rigorous enough to impress colleges, especially as a sophomore, and you probably won’t get credit for Comp or Env, so I don’t see the real benefit.

Does this sport require next to no time commitment?

@An0maly: I want to get AP National Scholar…And I could get it by the end of my sophmore year with those 2

@Jersey13: Let me specify a little more. I meant top 30 in the nation out of freshman. I throw discus. It requires about 3 hours of lifting and throwing 5-6 days a week.

You’re planned schedule is completely fine. Just drop a self-study or something if you need the time for the other ap’s or EC’s or something.

Do whatever you think is most rigorous at your school:

I’m currently a sophomore and I’m taking:
Precalc/Trig Honors
Chemistry Honors
US History Honors
Spanish Honors
English Honors

Self-Study AP Psych and AP Environmental Science.

Definitely most challenging schedule out of my whole grade… mainly because we don’t offer APs for 9th and 10th.

6 APs and 2 Honors in Sophomore Year…haha…it’s really crazy…

If you want to that’s fine but no college is going to be like “wow, national ap after 10th grade. we can’t pass on this guy!”

If the time commitment all works out though, then you’re fine.
