too difficult a schedule?

I'll be a freshman at Oregon State University this year, and I'll be working on an electrical engineering degree. Thus far, my schedule includes Chem 231(with required lab course Chem 261), Math 254, Electrical Engineering Intro 111, and Physics 211. In high school, I took Math 251, 252, 253, and 256 as well as Physics 201, 202, and 203. I got an A in every course listed, but I was wondering if I should switch out Physics for something easier during my first quarter or if I should continue as I am. Also, if I do decide to continue with this schedule, how often can I expect to have to study every night to maintain an A or a B in all of my courses? Thanks in advance for advice.

I don’t know the specifics of your school, but I would suggest swapping out a technical class for some sort of humanities/GE. It’s not necessarily an issue of a class being easy/hard, or whether or not you’re good at it, it’s a matter of balancing your workload. It’ll also give you a better idea of what to expect (how much work will math be, how much time needs to be spent on science?). If you think 3 technicals is easy to keep up with after your first semester, you’ll know 4 won’t be overwhelming if you want to go that path later.

Usually, physics is more important than chemistry for the purpose of prerequisites to more advanced electrical engineering courses. So if you swap out one of the science courses, you may want to consider keeping physics over chemistry, if the prerequisite structure of the courses in your major depends more on physics than chemistry.

Looking at what your college/major requires: Based on your major’s requirements, you MUST take EE111 and Math (so you’re good with that)… plus HHS 231 Fall of your freshman year; you MUST take Writing 121 in the Fall if your name starts with A-G, in Winter or Spring otherwise: when is it scheduled for you? Finally, you MUST take 2 “perspective” classes during your freshman year. So either you have a Perspective or you have Writing.
Therefore your schedule should look like this:
Math 254
EE 111
WR 121 or Perspectives
HHS231
1 other class between Chem or Physics (considering your major, I’d pick Physics)

Regarding your last question: with the schedule above, you can expect to study 5 hours per day or so. You WILL have to study every night no matter what.

Actually I am also confuse about this matter. I think, You are going a great problem. Really this is big problem and hard to maintain both. I have no solution. I can pray for you.

That’s very helpful! Thanks. I think I’ll swap out chemistry for a perspective class as I forgot that I’m required to take two this year and since I finished WR 121 in high school.
