<p>Using that scale, a 3.7 is really not very impressive. A standard student with 3 AP classes and half of their remaining classes as honors would recalculate that GPA to a 3.1. The local high school here uses the same weighting system, and the Valedictorian graduated with a 5.5 GPA. Top 50% was around 3.7.</p>
<p>FSU is just playing with the numbers.
This method is pretty much consistent across the Florida SUS. It works for Florida and given the numbers of graduates from the SUS in a state of some 18 million, I’d say it is reasonable.</p>
