I'm going to be done with my final SAT on Saturday, so, I was thinking of possibly starting to study for the GRE. Does anyone think it is too early to study for it? (I'm a HS senior btw). If not, then what books or online resources do you recommend?

Yes, it’s too early.

The GRE is not substantively different from the SAT (actually, the math section is easier). There is no way you need to study for several years, and you don’t need to take the GRE until you are actually applying to graduate school.

I agree that its a bit early, but you should know that GRE scores are technically valid for up to 5 years from the date of the exam (however most of the grad programs want on a GRE score no more than 2-3 years old).

So if you wanted to study for and take the GRE early, say when you’re a college sophomore, you could do that and not have to stress about it when you’re taking hard courses and trying to graduate toward the tail end of your college career.

If you really must start early, there are several websites that let you register to receive a GRE practice question every day by email. Doing just one 5 minute question a day for the next 2 years is kind of excessive, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt you.

The advice I gave you is that you should wait until junior year.

Just take it now - most people try to take the GRE during the junior year of college, which is like the worst time to prepare for any sort of standardized tests.

I started studying GRE after I got admission from colleges. Don’t wait till the junior year.

Sophomore year, then?
