Hey guys, I'm just another asian kid who wants to go into premed. During my college visits, Middlebury and Bowdoin just stood out to me and the more research I do, the more I wanna go to one of these places. However, these two also happen to be the most selective places I visited, and my stats don't reflect the typical overachiever that these schools are looking for.
Do I stand a chance?

I think your stats are right in there. GPA a little low but the 7AP’s will help that immensely and if your school doesn’t have a lot of perfect GPA’s in general (aka private school with very challenging curriculum in general), I think mostly it will come down to recommendations and your essay. Make sure you ask wisely on that one.

Don’t count yourself out. As I told my S, the recruited athlete who didn’t qualify for States in HS “honey, you are the cream of D3”. And I was correct…

Maybe there is hope The only problem is that I passed on all the summer showcases as I didn’t think I’d be playing. Can I still get recruited without a scout evaluation/highlight video?

Oh and just another question. Does being asian help at all? I feel like being asian is a negative to most top schools, but Bowdoin only has a 6% asian population. Thanks for the responses, they’ve been extremely helpful.

No being Asian does not help anywhere. Middlebury and Bowdoin are both highly selective- you could easily get into both, one or neither. If you have your sights set on one or the other but don’t care which, ED will significantly boost your chances. Middlebury is a little bigger, has the edge on language and international studies, and his near the mountains. Bowdoin is a little smaller, has the edge on science and maybe government and has the Maine coast and closer to bigger towns like Portland and Boston. BUT you can study any of these subjects and more at either school and have a great time and get a great education!

Hi, your gpa is a little low but the rest of your stats are very strong, especially the 2 years of research in a biology lab. Colleges absolutely love research experience, and it is something that not many high schoolers take the opportunity to do. As someone who applied to Middlebury regular decision out of high school and got waitlisted, I have a few pieces of advice for you so that hopefully you can learn from my mistakes :)

APPLY EARLY DECISION. I cannot stress this enough. Whenever you read admissions statistics they will always say the overall admit rate, and I think Middlebury’s is around 19%. But what is less published is the huge difference between RD and ED. When I applied, ED was ~35% and RD ~8%. Yes, recruited athletes and legacies usually apply ED and that skews the statistics, but ED is still an enormous advantage that you might as well use. Midd also has ED II where the app is not due until Dec. 15 or so.

If you like Midd and Bowdoin, you will be happy at a lot of LAC’s or NESCAC schools. Middlebury and Colgate were the only LAC’s I applied to, and after I was waitlisted at Midd and realized I didn’t like Colgate, I had to go to my safety which was a big school that I really didn’t like. People will always talk about the great qualities of Midd or the difference between Bowdoin and Bates, but honestly, all of the top NESCAC’s are pretty similar and at the end of the day you will end up making friends and being happy at any of them, so apply to a LOT to make sure that you can end up at one.

Sorry, I know that you didn’t exactly ask these questions, but since you were asking about your chances I thought I’d tell you how to improve your chances. Hope all goes well for you!
