Too Hopeful? Chance Me at Top Schools.

<p>Hey, thanks to everyone for taking the time to read this. I'm just curious on chances for some really competitive school's.</p>

<p>Rank: 2/110
GPA: weighted 4.63/ unweighted 3.8ish or 3.9ish (upward trend)</p>

<p>SAT I: October 2008: CR 760 / M 750 / W 730 (2240) (2nd time)
March 2008: CR 730 / M 740 / W 660 (2130) (1st time)</p>

<p>SAT II: Math 2: 770
Chemistry: 760
Biology M: 740</p>

<p>Extracurricular (Athletics):
Varsity Tennis (captain / several awards)
Varsity Cross Country
Varsity Winter Track</p>

<p>Extracurricular (Clubs):
President of National Honors Society
Treasurer of Key Club
Witness for Mock Trial
member of other clubs, but no leadership :-(</p>

<p>Volunteer / Work
300 hours of community service
just small summer jobs</p>

<p>I feel like I'm being really hopeful with the school's I'm applying because CC's made me feel inadequate of other people's EC's lol. Chance me, please.</p>

<p>Wow I have no chance…I am applying to some of the same schools, with lower Sat scores, lower class rank, and lower Ec’s…WOW…</p>

<p>Nah man, you’re in a much bigger and probably more competitive school. Our SAT’s are similar, I really doubt colleges will nitpick 20 points here and there, and you have cool EC’s like the black belt while mine are just kinda ordinary. We’re probably in the same boat…you know the sinking one lol jk. :-)</p>

<p>Since this thread has gotten so much busier, I’ll definitely help you out. </p>

<p>Let’s start by looking at your GPA. A 3.8 or 3.9 ish coupled with an upward grade trend is nothing to be ashamed of, because it’s pretty good. However, I don’t really know how to just this totally because you have not listed any APs. If you have an AP-laden courseload, your app will be more competitive. Generally, at these top schools, the average number of APs, based on the CCers I have chanced, is about 7 or 8, but of course, the applicant pool takes fewer APs, because CCers are just so overachieving. </p>

<p>Your SAT of 2240 is pretty good; however, I will warn you that college admission officers aren’t very fond of people taking the SAT in their senior year, because it gives you an advantage over many other applicants who take it in their junior year. That said, that is quite a jump, and you should be pretty happy! Your SAT Subjects look just fine. </p>

<p>You seem to be pretty involved in school, but I get the feeling that you do these activities just for the sake of listing it in your app. College admission officers are looking for genuine and passionate people who love doing the things they do, and they can tell that based on reading your essays and recs. You cannot fake passion as I always say, and not having leadership in some clubs is not the end of the world. </p>

<p>Anyways, you sound like the typical overachieiving applicant to the top schools. There isn’t much that sets you apart from the crowd, so make sure you get good recs (not only from teachers who like you but also those who you’ve worked with outside of class because those will give you the best and most colorful recs) and write good essays. </p>

<p>About AP’s, I took all the AP’s my school had to offer which amounts to a grand total of 4 lol. 3 of which are my senior year, but this was literally the hardest course load my school has to offer. I took AP Chem junior year and got a 5!</p>

<p>For EC’s, I won’t lie the majority of my passion was in the athletics. Sports were definitely the greatest part of my high school experience and I loved the feeling of being on a team winning different things and trying to get further.</p>

<p>Also, its okay to be harsh I can take it. Post your original message, I’d like to see your initial thoughts.</p>
