So, I know it's too late for additional comments b/c that was part of the UC application, but is there anyway to let them know why I got a C (it's my only C) in my first semester in college (it was actually a summer term, where I just wasn't focusing). The most disappointing thing is, I didn't even have to take that calc class (I only took it because I wanted to review and also incase I got a 3 out of 5 (and a 4 is needed to move up to calc 2, and I found out I did get a 4) on my AP calc high school exam -- scores came out a little later in the summer). I just forgot to explain my C on the application. Do you think we can update additional comments (from the academic section, not personal statement) in January? If not, should I just leave it?

Don’t compare a “C” to a “D” or “F” in the additional comments. It will look as if you make too many excuses and can’t take responsibility for the grade you received. A “C” is not the end of the world - since you said you only have one.

There’s still the January update. But I’m not sure how much of the application you’re allowed to update. As far as I know, you only update your grades for the fall semester/quarter and list the classes you’ll be taking in winter, spring and summer.
