i have been asleep. is it too late for scholarships? i applied for fall 2007.

Too late for alot of them. But FastWeb is still putting out some - check there. But remember, if you haven't been motivated till now to check them out, you're going to have to be REALLY motivated to compete for some of those on Fastweb.

Also don't forget that scholarships don't end with this year. There are some that are only for students already in college - so keep your eyes and ears peeled earlier in 07-08.

Not quite, but a lot of deadline dates just passed in spring. Basically, every scholarship is unique and sets its own deadline dates. For some reason, the popular deadline dates seem to be in late spring and early fall, right when students are at their busiest.

You should probably start looking ahead for scholarships that have deadlines any time in 2007 and get started at least thinking out and planning the application process. From lengthy essays to recommendation letters and transcripts, there could be a lot of paperwork involved.

thanks both you guys, I am/have applied to some and actually thinking of REALLY ahead, i know i am going to college, AND that i will be looking forward to transferring to a very good school which may cost upto 50K, so is it possible to SUM UP the scholarships for one school?

Are you asking if the scholarships can all be used toward one school? Most can be, though it depends on the specific qualifications of each scholarship. Also, if you're going for financial aid, money like that will count against you.

what do mean by count against me? u mean its better to stick with one thing?

Here's an example. My D's fin aid package from her school choice included merit aid, grants, stafford/perkins loans (better loans), work study and our contribution/PLUS loans (not so great loans).

When she received outside scholarships you should technically report these to the school. You MUST report them when the scholarship place will be sending the $$ directly to the school. Because of these outside scholarships (let's say they total $3000) the school will revise her fin ad package and will take out some of the stafford/perkins loans. They cannot award over the amount it costs to go there. In the long run it is still better - we will have less $$ to borrow (for this year anyway). We will still have some good loans available.

The school asked us if the outside scholarships would be renewable - which hopefully indicates that the good loans would then be there to use next year.

Definitely try for scholarships. IMO
