Too Late?! Or never too late!!

Ok everyone, I'm in top 12%. Applying to UT and Rice, yeah I know those are stretches. My GPA is only like 3.5 but that's because I slacked off. My school is weighted on a 5.0 scale. Here's the deal:

Next year, I'm taking 7 ap classes during my senior year. And I'm going to get high As (95+) in all of them.

Here's my question, how much will that help me and will it be impressive enough to boost my chances if I have a near perfect senior year?

Please don't question me, don't tell me I can't or won't do it, and don't say I can't handle it. I know my own potential, believe me.

Just tell me if you think that will make a big difference or not. And if I should apply RD instead of ED. Thanks guys, appreciate it

My son did 7 APs this year (junior) and maintained (95+) so it is certainly possible. It was a lot of work, and I did not recommend doing it. He wanted to, but is glad it is behind him now and would not encourage most people to follow that plan. He was extremely busy this year and did not have as much time to do fun/social activities.

I’m not sure how much of a difference it will make. I believe RD would showcase senior year more than ED. Keep in mind ED locks you into a school EA does not.

I’m curious since I’m already about to be a senior if it will boost me up. Worst case scenario, I end up with some credits

Bump please

Do not apply to ealry decision… when you apply early decision all they see is your senior year schedule, not the grades… they will make their decision before they get a chance to see how well you did on your midterm. If you apply regular decision the midterm may play a larger role…

^ good advice…
i, myself, never thought of that

yes, it’ll give you a nice boost. first semester senior year does count for something, and they’ll see your course rigor from the start anyways.

Put it like this- if it goes from good to perfect instantly, will they notice or care?

Honestly, probably not. When you go from average to amazing really quickly (especially during junior year or senior year) it implies that you are doing it for college apps/have been lazy for an extended period of time.
Just to clarify, is your 3.5 uw or weighted?

I believe it’s weighted, but not certain. It’s about a 85 average in Pre-Ap classes

Rice will basically be unrealistic, I can’t speak to UT…

I’m not saying ill get in, but I know I’ll have a chance. I have a lot going for me other than GPA. I’m not trying to be arrogant or delusional though. I understand I almost certainly will not get in. But that won’t stop me from trying.

If you want to try, go for it (we all have some unrealistic schools on our list), but understand that GPA is almost universally considered to be the most important aspect and yours is lacking, make sure you have safeties.

Of course, thanks so much. I know someone who got in with a 3.7 and only a 1800 SAT. I asked him and he said he aced the interview and essay. I see myself getting over a 2100, and I honestly believe the other two are easy. I’m a very confident outgoing person, and my essays are the only thing on my scores that are really impressive (11 out of 12 on both ACT and SAT)

^ go for it
