Too late to apply Regular Decision instead?

I was planning on applying to Cornell Engineering early decision, but I'm not sure what to do anymore. My mother hasn't done her taxes for several years, and I've been asking her to complete the 2011 taxes by September when I was planning to apply for QuestBridge but they still haven't been done. She says that she's just been too busy for taxes at all, and I've been trying to do them myself but it doesn't seem like I can get them done in time for the financial aid deadline for early decision. I've done all I can these past months to try to get the taxes started but I can't. Much of my attempts to reason with my mother have turned into arguments and pleading, and the possibility of the taxes getting done by November 1st (or November 5th from the Sandy extension? The CSS profile still says November 1st though) seems very, very slim. I called Cornell and the 2011 taxes definitely play a vital role in applying for a helpful financial package.

Is it still possible to apply to Cornell regular decision instead? I've been learning how to use TurboTax and Excel and I know I can definitely finish the taxes by December. Is it too late to withdraw my application? Are there any kinds of dire consequences from me doing this? I'm really unsure of what to do next, and this issue has just been very overwhelming.

You can contact Cornell and ask them to take your app out of the ED category and put it in the RD category. They should be able to do that.
Good luck with the taxes.
