Too late to do well

Obviously, this is subjective, but I am not a great essay writer. I have barely started writing-I have just thought of ideas. Obviously i know that it isnt too late-but am I at a disadvantage for not writing yet-i see a ton of kids on here who have already finished drafts...

It really depends on your schedule this year. I’m sure a lot of the people who have finished drafts anticipate that fall will be hectic, so they’re trying to get the essay out of the way. Writing a draft, however, really doesn’t take that long. There’s still time left this summer, so you definitely have time to try your ideas, select one, and work on it. Instead of worrying about whether you’re behind, just start.

This is me. Plenty of kids do fine writing their essays during the school year, but some of us have incredibly demanding schedules that don’t allow time for thoughtful essay writing or revision during the year.

what constitutes thoughtful essay writing/revision?

I am also on the same boat as you since I just realized that everyone is writing their essays… Being a big procrastinator, I was just wondering what is an example of a typical time-line of finishing a essay because I feel like I could just write over the next week or so before school even starts??

I’m worried about it too! Just signed up to cc today to see if others were in the same boat…

Wish there was a good resource for finding out what the Admissions really want

(I’m applying for - prob - 10 schools and it’s hard to do all the supplementary q’s)

I’ve gotten stuck on a few schools, so for me thoughtful essay writing involved overcoming this roadblock by doing serious Interet research/reflections of my visits (for those I’d visited) until I had a feeling of the vibe as well as the specific programs and could voice this coherently.

For me, I need time (one week+) to gain enough distance from an essay to edit well. Others need more or less time.

As a general timeline, I spent a week and a half writing my Common App essay/EC short answer and the supplements for 7 schools. I plan on writing the other three during school.
