Too late to get recruited?

I run Cross Country and Track, and so far in my high school career, my times have not been good enough to receive that much scholarship money anywhere. However, I have had a somewhat injury-plagued career (and some general laziness) that has greatly affected my base training before the season, and thus my results during the season. I also missed most of my junior XC season with a stress fracture at a time when I was starting to improve very rapidly. This summer though, I have been training very well, and all signs point to a very productive season if I remain healthy. I hope to run around 16:20 for the 5k this fall. Would this be enough to get scholarship money from anywhere in D1? Or at least walk-on status where I could work my way to one?

Also, would I be able to get into any Ivy as an athlete with these academic stats:

GPA: 3.2 (upward trend)
ACT: 30 (hoping to get up to 33)
SAT: 2070 (hoping to get up to 2200+)

Lastly, since all of this would happen during my senior year, and very close to college application time, I am worried about how I should go about the recruiting process at this point, as well as applying to colleges. Thanks for any advice!

I do not have experience with XC, but my daughter was recruited her senior year in her sport. (gymnastics) And while you admit you have not been as strong of an athlete as you could have been…
There are a couple of things you SHOULD do, to help yourself.
Have you registered with the NCAA clearing house? If a coach DOES have an interest, he will need your number.
Have you made contact with coaches, to let them know you are interested?
Unless you are a “stand out” XC-er…you will have to make sure they KNOW that you exist.
One more bit of advice…Don’t discount D2 or D3. My daughter was recruited by a D3 school (while recovering from a stress fracture to her tibia)…we chose not to court D1 for several reasons…Her “package” from a D3 school ended up being VERY attractive…enough for us to send her 1500 miles away.
Good Luck

Thanks! Bump. Anyone else?

Recruited? Not impossible. Recruited with $$$? I wouldn’t hold out too much hope but stranger things have happened. Good Luck!

I am not sure whether or not I really want to do this, but would taking a PG year have any benefit? I feel like I can get very fast if given an extra year, as well as give my GPA a boost.

I thought my D, who is a senior, was a fairly strong D3 recruit. We’ve sent introductory e-mails to around 15 schools. The schools are fairly selective, but we haven’t generated strong interest from coaches. Her stats are:

19:04 in the 5k
2:21 in the 800m
ACT Composite: 29
GPA: 4.08

My question is: Does the XC recruiting pick up again in December after the season is over? The recruiting this summer hasn’t gone badly but it hasn’t gone well.

Please comment freely. Thank you.

lynch, my D was a recruited track athlete, so it was different in that there was no fall season, but I was not aware of a second round of xc recruiting taking place in December. Also, most coaches like their athletes to go EA/ED and the deadline for that is usually sometime in Nov.

We were feeling some pressure to apply ED at one of the schools. That was a month ago. I guess the pre-read didn’t go well.

I should have mentioned that my D does have two OVs at NESCAC schools. A third liberal arts college in the south has been very encouraging. <the times="" at="" d3="" schools="" are="" noticeably="" slower="" when="" you="" get="" outside="" of="" new="" england.=""></the>
