A professor my son has been doing research with wrote a great extra rec for him for a couple of schools he's applied to. Does Hopkins take extra recs or not? Is it too late? My son has also applied for the Woodrow Wilson fellowship.

Applicants have until March 1st (received by date) to update their applications. Yes, Hopkins does accept extra recommendations, but requests students not submit more than 4 total recommendations.

Also, there is no guarantee that materials submitted after the application deadline will be included in the review of one's application. We make our best effort to review all documents, but anything submitted after the deadline may not be processed in time or one's application may have already been reviewed by the Admissions committee.

Thanks, AdmissionDaniel.

I got a note today from my son's counselor that his AP Bio teacher had written an additional Rec but that it failed to be included in the midyear report. It was being faxed and then also sent by snail mail apparently.

My question is, if so much reading of applications is being done online this year, how does Johns Hopkins reconcile those kids who send in their applications via online and all the other paperwork that comes from the High School still in paper format? Seems to me that there is more of a chance for things to get misplaced.. UNLESS.. you're scanning documents that come in via regular mail and then adding to people's files.

Actually, there is much less of a chance for papers to go misfiled this year. All documents that are received online, via fax, or in the mail are scanned and directly added to an applicant's file. There is minimal human error this go around, and everything else is moving a lot faster.

In addition, when the second review and committee reviews begin this year, the counselors will know if any new documents have been added to a student's file after the first read had been completed.
