Too late to start applying to IBs?

Is it too late to start applying for summer IB positions? I was thinking of applying to smaller banks but I'm not really sure how I could find them.
I'm particularly interested in applying in the Northern California area (SF, Berk).

My grades and previous work experience are stellar but I'm not at a target school. I'm actually at a Community College, getting ready to transfer to Applied Mathematics program, likely at UCB.

Any recommendations?

being at a community college will be a huge disadvantage. nonetheless, you can try some of those (i got this from wallstreetoasis):

Screening Criteria

I honestly don’t understand people who post this ****. Your coming to a message board to ask if your late applying to IB SA positions. Dont you think if you were serious about this that you would go to their websites, call them, etc.?

Cgurr, I already had summer plans for a similar position. I recently realized that the plan may not come to fruition because of circumstances that are out of my control. I’m very aware that many major bank’s applications were due at the end of January at least in the LA area. I wasn’t sure how to find smaller banks and if they would still be taking interviews. I am simply looking for any additional information from those who know. I understand your frustration but please, try not to assume the worst.

Thanks Drizzl, I’ll be sure to use that website.

Your not too late by any means. While BB recruiting is winding down, especially in CA and NY there are many boutiques and small shops that might need a summer intern to help - whether paid or unpaid your goal should be to accumulate experience and build your resume ahead of FT recruiting. Coming from a community school will definitely slow you down a bit, but it is certainly possible with some hard work, a punched up resume and solid interview skills. Your first step should be to check the employment boards (Craigslist, efinancialcareers, etc), then Google search for some CA boutiques in your area. Even shops that are looking for a FT analyst might consider you if you reach out and make a good case as an intern to support or help the new analyst as he/she build experience. Don’t believe that you need a BB to make it into FT IB - a no-name boutique can build your resume really well if you get some solid experience out of it.

It might be a tough road, but you’ve definitely got some time to check around and make it happen. PM me if you have any other questions and good luck.
