If I take the January SAT Subject Tests and have my scores sent automatically, will they make it on time to be considered part of my Regular Decision application? I put the tests under my “intended” standardized tests in the general portion of CommonApp.
Thank you in advance for your answers!
@OutdoorsyDan No, Carnegie Mellon requires that all test scores arrive at the university by January 1st. They may be even more strict and require all test scores to be processed by that day (which means they should’ve been sent well in advance).
@MandomeLife Where does it say that on the website?
@Jotaro I was given that information by the office of admissions through a phone call. I am not sure if it is specified on their website.
@MandomeLife Well then they really should specify. Of course students would assume they accept the January test when every other top university does.
@Jotaro You can’t assume anything. Every institution is different, and any applicant making grand generalizations about the admissions process at different schools is probably going to find out the hard way that he or she should have done research.
@anxiousenior1 So show me where it says they don’t accept the January test date. I actually did look and saw that nowhere.

“Take the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with Writing and SAT Subject Tests preferably by November, but no later than December. If you are applying to art, design, drama or music, SAT Subject Tests are not required.”
Says right there.
"6. Take the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with
Writing and two SAT Subject Tests preferably by
November, but no later than December. "
Comes directly from page 3 of the 2016 Carnegie Mellon Application Instructions Booklet that can be downloaded from the cmu website.
@Jotaro As I said, you can’t assume things, and applicants should do the research.
@anxiousenior1 You would think they would advertise such important on the actual admissions page and not some booklet you need to download. Its really not farfetched to assume such things.
@Jotaro If it took me less than 5 minutes to find the information, you obviously didn’t look very hard.
@anxiousenior1 Did you not read what I said? Whether it took you 5 or 50 minutes to find that info, it really should be on the admissions page under the requirements section. not some “course catalog”.
@Jotaro did you not look at the admissions page? there is a link for you to peruse the requirements. if an applicant really wanted to know, he or she would have found it.
Welp, I have answers!
I was scheduled to take two Subject Tests in January, and there was a huge snowstorm in my area so all the tests were rescheduled to mid-February. I called Carnegie Mellon, and they said that it was no problem at all, and that they appreciated my call.
In regards to the other comments, yes I know how to find information on a college’s website. I agree with Jotaro, it should be on a page like “Dates and Deadlines” like many other institutions have. I was able to eventually find the information myself (thank you very much) but I posted this thread in order to cover as many bases as I could and get the correct information.
Best wishes to everyone who applied!
