Hi everyone I’m a current UCSB student just finishing my sophomore year, and I’m starting to realize that I want to transfer to another UC. I have been pretty unhappy here the past two years, and don’t know how I feel about spending another 2 years (or more) here until I graduate. I really appreciate the great education I’m receiving (which is why I still want to stay in the UC system) , but the campus just isn’t the right fit for me at all. I know the deadline for Fall 2015 passed a while ago, and I don’t think I can apply for Fall 2016 since at the point I’m pretty sure I’ll have too many units to transfer. On the UC site I did see that the filing period for winter quarter/spring semester is July 1-July 31, but a couple schools that I called said they were not admitting winter/spring transfers. I guess my question is what are my options? Should I just stay another two years, not be happy and just tough it out? Or are there options out there? I honestly don’t know what to do anymore.
Well, you have two options, stick it out or go back to CCC, but since you already completed 2 years in UCSB, there might be credit limitations. (You should call a CCC counselor) You have to ask yourself why are you in college, are you considering majoring in something that is not available at a UCSB? Is there any specific, valid reason that would warrant you to consider leaving? It’s up to you to decide, so good luck.
Ya, it’s too late to transfer, maybe again next year, but you might need to take a year off to prevent taking too many credits.
I would also recommend taking a year off.
Yes, you would either have to take a year off or plow through it. Another prob - you would have to complete the major req for the UCs you wish to apply to - not the major req for the major at UCSB. Plus, I don’t know where you are in terms of gen ed courses (reciprocity)
In terms of CCC, you need 30 semester units to transfer, and the UC courses you’ve already taken will prob put you over unit max… So that probably is not an option.
Ok thanks for the advice everyone! Do any of you know who I can go talk to to get advice on this issue? The academic advising here said they couldn’t give me any helpful advice about inter campus transfers other than discussion about transferable units and what not.
- Ask your UC about what you need to do for a letter of reciprocity. They’ll know what that is.
Here is UCSC’s (I couldn’t find UCSB):
http://registrar.ucsc.edu/navigator/section1/transfer/reciprocity%20.html
I’m not sure if you have to complete every general Ed course to transfer UC-UC.
- Then go to assist.org, choose any CCC, it doesn’t matter which, then choose the UC you want to transfer to and pick your intended major. It will tell you what the major requirements are. Try to match those requirements with courses at your UC.
You would then apply in November.
You could also see major requirements on the UC website but I mentioned assist because I think it might more clearly show what they want prior to transfer.
Go over to the admissions office and see if you can talk to one of the counselors there. Worth a try…
