Too lazy to take an AP test?

If I'm too lazy (or wanna save some cash) and decide not to take 1 or 2 AP exams I said on my app that I would take May 2010, could this affect my admission? Could U of M rescind my admission? Just to clarify, I'm not dropping any AP courses or anything, just not taking the exam.

I'm 90% sure I'm NOT going to do this, and will take the tests, but I was just curious. I'm only considering this becauseThanks!!

Nah, they don’t care. In fact, they might even prefer you don’t, that’s just one more class they can make bank on.

It won’t have any effect on ur admission. ^for the last statement, I doubt that’s true. Source?

It’s not true. Anything ranging from 12(13?) to 18 credits costs the same. Then again with AP credit you could finish a semester early…

“Might” being the operative word in my statement. Purely speculative.

Would probably be a good thing to ask someone at the school.

It has no effect on admissions at all, and you have no chance of being rescinded for it. If you don’t want to take it, don’t.

Thanks for all the answers!

So here’s more specifics about my situation now: On my application, I specifically put down on their drop down menu that I’m taking both Physics C exams May 2010. Now I’m planning on only taking one of the Physics C exams, the mechanics one, since I really have no chance of getting 5’s on both. So just to make sure one more time, I’ll be fine right?

I might call them to make sure, but I just wanted to ask here first, thanks!!

Thanks for all the answers so far!

I know I said I would most likely take the tests, but after learning about the price of the tests and learning about the difficulty, I’ll just try to ace one of them.

Just wanted to mention here that my S now in his first year was granted 29 credits for his AP tests. We just figured out that this will enable him to graduate a semester early with a dual major and study abroad if all goes as planned. The test fees and associated stress now seem well worth it!

By the way, you talk about saving money and being lazy? fyi, an AP test is $86. Depending on what you score and what test you take (and what school in U of M you’re enrolled in) you can get between 2-5 credit hours and could cover a whole class. Almost any class at Michigan requires much more work than taking an AP test and scoring well and taking any college class costs much more than $86. Just saying. It’s stupid not to take advantage of AP credits, unless you know you wouldn’t score well enough to get credit.

^ Yep, I know I won’t score high enough. The physics C exams are apparently really hard, and you need a 5 to get credit. I’m just gonna focus on getting a 5 on the mechanics to maximize my chances.

Meh, I’m not a huge fan of AP Tests. Then again, saving money has never been a big priority for me. If you need to save the money, AP Tests are a pretty good investment. Otherwise, I found it was better to just take the intro freshman Chem, Physics, Calc, etc. courses. Easy As, and as an engineering major, those grades have helped to keep my GPA in good shape as I take the upper-level engineering courses.
