Amherst is my first choice, but I’m worried about my low SAT scores. Would 670 verbal, 700 math, 740 writing be too low for Amherst’s standards? The worst part is that I want to major in English and history, but my verbal score is my lowest…please provide any advice!

can you take the sat's again?

Your within the median range for Amherst on all 3 subscores. I would worry more about your essays at this point.

Not terrible, and certainly not a red flag: but that puts you right in the midrange as Catfish told you. Unless you can appeal to the admins with your essays, your hopes are pretty slim. Pay attention to them.

You don't have much of a chance unless you have a GPA of 4.0 unweighted. Do you?

i have a uw gpa of about 3.7 and 800cr, 640m, 720 w, and 5s on apeng and apushistory- i know the math is low

I have a 3.9 gpa (not counting P.E....)
