Ok seriously. Panic time. My Chem teacher hadn’t sent in his rec–or the MIT adcom lost it. I asked him to fax it on Friday, but he either faxed it yesterday or will fax it today.

Adcom will never lose it whatsoever, because all the applicant stuff goes into his/her specific folder. They are pretty organized. Did it ever show up being “processed” on your myMit portal?

According to Matt, very slim chance that it will be considered, because you might have already been accepted or rejected or wait listed by now.

In the processing stages, it never showed up?

Then… you MIGHT be in a problem because they never got it or something…

I would advise you to email the admissions office right away and ask about your letter being processed or not. However, I doubt if they will be able to answer any case specific questions. But PLEASE TRY for sure.

“The Application Tracking System is no longer accessible for 2009 freshman applicants. Please do not worry whether we have received your Mid- year Grade Report; if we need further information we will be sure to contact your school. We’ll be in touch soon with our decisions. In the meantime, have a great semester.”

First of all, it is never panic time. Seriously. Deep breaths.

If your teacher is already sending the letter, then there’s no need to worry. MIT’s pretty reasonable – they’ve probably already read your application and are discussing it, and they’ll see your letter after selection. They understand that when your teachers send your recs, or when they get lost in the mail, is out of your control.

We mailed the teacher rec out on time and kept checking the website but it didn’t show so we faxed it out 4 times, and kept waiting for it to update but nothing. Now the website is closed and I guess we have to hope that it’s in. The application process with MIT has been difficult compared to other schools.

Krug - We have experienced very little problems with the MIT website but I think some of that has to do with when the materials were sent. D put in requests for recs and transcripts in October and submitted application part 1 early november and part 2 early december. I think that the sheer volume of materials sent in at regular decision time causes the headaches you are experiencing.

D only had a complaint about one school who managed to lose a rec, despite how early they were submitted, and it was not MIT.

Krug-

This sounds exactly like me. After numerous faxes, they finally received it and showed the MyMIT as having processed it just last week.

Mcubed23,
How long did it take for them to update on MyMIT for you?
We sent the original rec in Jan, and kept faxing every week up until this Monday. I hope that they will let us know if that’s the only thing still missing and not kick the application out.
