Too Many APs?

I’m choosing classes for senior year, and I honestly wanna know if its too rigorous or not. I’ll be taking:

English 4 Dual
Calculus Dual
AP Music Theory
AP Gov
AP Macro
AP Psych
AP Research

I genuinely want to take all of these classes simply because of interests. I also plan on adding AP Stats…as a junior, i am taking 4 APs with other honors classes, and i’m doing okay. I’m scared because i wont have time to focus on other activities, along with college applications.

Thank You

College applications will take a lot of time and effort. This is a LOT. I don’t think that folks on CC can know for sure whether it is too much for you. However I think that the potential downside of taking this many classes probably exceeds the upside.

One daughter took AP music theory. She loved the class. However, it was a lot of work. Don’t expect it to be an easy one because it won’t be.

Drop music theory

If you are not going to be a music major/minor, drop the AP Music Theory. It is very hard. My DD took it, liked it, did well but she will be the first to say it was the hardest AP class she took. (She had 11APs). But she also had ABRSM music theory thru level 5 before she took it.

You need to account for the “hidden” class - College Applications and Essays. Incoming seniors always underestimate the time commitment involved.

So yes, I think 5 APs and 2 DE classes is too much.

You will be fine, but understand that these are memorization-heavy classes and you are not going to have a lot of free time.

Drop AP music theory unless you’re already a strong musician.
Choose one between AP research and AP psych.
Replace these two classes with a science class (APES?) and a foreign language level 4 (unless you already completed it).
