Too many ECs?

Hi guys,

I participate in A BUNCH of ECs but the thing is I invest a lot of my time into all of them. I was wondering if colleges would think that having so many ECs seems shallow (ya know, the depth vs breadth thing), and whether I should cut down on a few of them. I don’t know how I would choose which ones to get rid of :frowning: Actually now looking at the list, I don’t even know if the amount of ECs I do can be considered a lot, but I would love your input!

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): FBLA/DECA (President), Mock Trial (Captain), Debate (VP), Biology club (President), Math team (Captain), Engineering/Science National Honors Society (President), Mu Alpha Theta (VP), implemented program at local hospital (coordinator)

Thanks for any advice

Also, I’m a future captain for a varsity sport so yeah, should I quit any clubs?

That does not look like too many ECs to me, and since they don’t overwhelm you time-wise I don’t know why you would stop any of them. Most college applications provide a place to list 10 ECs in order of importance to you, so you should be able to list them all. These ECs all complement each other in some way as well and reflect leadership, so they do not come across as “shallow” at all, but rather as “depth” in academic-type activities.

Your ECs are fine. Definitely not too many.

You’re ECs are definitely a lot but they are all leadership positions so it won’t look shallow at all. Instead, it will look like you are capable of managing lots of things and have many interests
