Too many errors in sent Application essay! HELP!

So for my UIUC application, for the second major choice essay. This is what I typed and sent.

You have selected a second choice major. Please explain your interest in this major.

My love for electronics and technology simply can not die or fade away. It is attached to me and will always be. But for electronics, especially, it is something more. Making such projects at times allows me to get my thoughts straight, let out my emotions or fears. It is something that not only I want to pursue as my major but also as hobby as well. Making my projects in my basement with a 3-D AutoCAD version and your protoype infront you. That is the dream and one characteristic I appreciate about myself is my innnovation skills and where best to put it than electronics itself. Electronics Engineering is really admirable that it dives deep into a particular subject and focuses on it.

this is a second major essay, and an essay this horrible, will it backstab me ? Did i screw anything up ?

Just curious, is English your first language? Because not only in your essay, but in your actual post as well, there is quite a bit of error in basic English and sentence structure. Sadly Id have to say this essay will hurt your chances as it contains major english errors and fails to address the prompt.

@Smithg1227‌ It is, it’s just that on the computer I do ALOT of silly mistakes. I got 34 on the English ACT. But yeah. I had to do this Essay in like the LAST moment and it was 6:30 a.m for me with no sleep. So yeah…
So did i just screw my chances? I mean this IS a Second OPTIONAL Major right ?

bump

I’m kind of confused about what you mean by “second major essay” and “second optional major”, I thought there was only one essay about your major…

I think that this essay won’t do you any favors, but how much it negatively impacts you may depend. How are your other essays?

Oh they are really good, with good use of english.
Like in the application if you choose to apply for a second major you have to write an additional essay. And if you dont get selected for this major, you will be considered for the UIUC school of general studies.

OK. If your other essays are good then they may understand that this essay doesn’t reflect your true writing ability and think that you were just careless or didn’t spend enough time (which is still bad but not as bad I suppose).

I don’t think it matters too much. If you get into your first major, I doubt they’ll focus on the essay you wrote for your second choice.

HOWEVER, and I’m very sorry if this sounds rude, your essay just made my day! Thank you!

Admissions officers usually skim through essays pretty quick, especially for second choice essays, so you may be fine. Just don’t point it out to them.

Didn’t know you can start with but in a sentence! I think you’ll be fine

A tip subscriber wrote to ask if she could ever start a sentence with the word “but.” The answer to her question is yes. Often these conjunctions are used to coordinate two independent clauses (groups of words that can stand alone as sentences).

:P … But i am fine right ?
