I am involved in many ECs and many of them are in so many different interest areas. I deeply care about all of these ECs, but it may appear to admissions as if I piled on as many ECs as possible to seem more desirable. But this is not the case at all! I have so many interests, and lucky for me that my school has so many different ECs to let me explore my interests! But unfortunately, I am involved in so many of them that it might seem that I am detached from them, and only participate in them for “desirability factor” in admissions! I have been thinking about ECs to cut from my application to limit the amount of things for the admissions officers to sift through, but all of my ECs are important to me in their own ways! Help!
Do not worry about college admissions thinking you have just participated to pile on more ECs.
If you are truly interested in these different ECs, then good for you! On your common app try to show what you accomplished in the ECs and what leadership you showed even if it isn’t a title.
In other words, don’t just say “Key Club, 9-12 grade, VP” but “Key Club, 9-12 grade, VP 12 grade. Organized a food drive for local charity. Increased participation by 25% over previous year. As VP, coordinated membership drive that resulted in 10 new members.”
@bopper thank you so much for your advice!
