Too many hard classes??

As a current 8th grader part of a gifted program I'm taking h world studies, h English 1, h geo, h bio, h Japanese 2 at a top chicago public hs. Next year i have to take h English 2, h advanced alg/ trig, h chem, h jap 3. Do you think I should take ap human geo, or would it be too much? Should I just take h us history instead is it too hard

AP Human Geo is a joke.

Of course, not being exposed to AP material can make freshmen flunk the AP exam. Don’t underestimate it because you have to learn the material. The mean score on the Exam is around 2.5 and the reason is for inexperience Freshmen taking it. Be sure to actually STUDY for the Exam and you’ll be fine in the class too.

You should start with Human Geography.

pouts Human Geography may be an easier class, but it’s not what I’d call a joke. Honestly, I’ve used material from that class more often than I can say.
That said, if you’re dedicated, I encourage you to take it. It’ll be a lot of help for your future courses, as both an introduction to AP and a background in things like government & basic history or culture.

I went to a gifted middle school and then an ordinary high school. I’m taking “all honors” (honors classes are a joke. They say they’re “extremely rigorous”. Total BS) + AP MacroEcon (which has also proved to not live up to the expectation of “AP classes are hard” + I’m self-studying 4 additional APs and “balancing” numerous ECs. My point: do whatever you need to do to challenge yourself without feeling over stressed.
I didn’t understand from the way you worded your post if you’re going to a top hs or are curerntly in a top ms? If you can handle your top gifted middle school, one AP should be fine. However, if you’re going to a really good HS, I would ask current students at the school about what they think…

I have a friend who cracked open a Human Geo prep book a week before the exam and she got a five.

I think you should look at the curriculum for both and decide what you want to spend your year learning, rather than obsessing over whether you’re in an honors or an AP class.

You really need to sit down with your counselor and take into consideration what your school offers in the future to keep you educated. What does your High School “roadmap” look like? Will you be doing Duel Enrollment if you exhaust your school’s offerings? What are your requirements for High School (4X4…or less, etc) Do plan to graduate early? Those are only questions that can be answered by a person familiar with you, your future High School and your ability to handle the pressures of a demanding schedule.

@TeamRocketGrunt
I reviewed 2-3 days before and got a 5

@TeamRocketGrunt - I just looked over a couple of early notes for Human Geo and got a 5.

^^^^^^^^

So yeah, Human Geo is a joke.

@TeamRocketGrunt - Still, a lot of people mess up by not taking it seriously. And by being freshman.

@avacvrs Pay attention in class, don’t cheat, and you’ll be fine.

@observeraffect
lol’d at the don’t cheat

@SwaggyC - A good deal of my class were copying off of my tests. Or rather, three were, and they let 7 others copy off of them.

When I found out, I changed where I sat the day of the next test. According to my AP HUG teacher, the class average dropped by a letter grade with that.

@observeraffect
I let them copy my tests and we peer graded a lot and just gave people 100s. I usually got to copy their homework because I never did any so it was a win win.

@SwaggyC - That sounds like my class, most people just gave each other 100s. I would at least try to mention tot the person I was grading what they did wrong, though I mainly graded others who were taking it somewhat seriously.

@observeraffect
The class was too easy for me to take seriously.

@SwaggyC - To clarify, by seriously, I mean do the work and read the pages assigned to be read.

@observeraffect
In my class you could either
A) skim the book
or
B) pay attention during the lecture
