Too many interests and having a really hard time choosing a major.

I’m currently a sophomore and I’m having a really hard time deciding and settling on a major because my interests are all over the place. In my freshman year, I was a business major not because I was interested in business but mostly because of parental and societal influence but this year, I’ve been jumping around all over the place because I don’t really know what I want. I’m interested in Computer Science/IT but since I haven’t done anything STEM for a long time, I’m quite worried about making a crossover. I’ve also considered architecture because it is both creative and technical but the thing that is stopping me is how time consuming the major is and the bleak job prospects as well as the high cost needed to materials and printing. This would be the same with most design courses; the competition needed could make it hard to have a stable income. I’m thinking of getting into user experience or web design since it has good job outlooks and combines both the creative, aesthetic and the technical. I’ve also decided that later in life (possibly in my 30s+), I want to go into healthcare i.e physiotherapy but over here we could only study that at a graduate level and I’m not interested in anything along the lines of biology/chemistry for my major.

I was thinking of doing Computer Science as my major but the main problem is that I haven’t actually touched maths since high school, despite being decent at it and thus I’m worried about going into STEM. I’ve been told about information systems but after after talking to the head of department and finding out that it is mainly geared for business analysis jobs or IT support jobs which are of little interest to me.

My interests are in art/design, technology, psychology/sociology, languages/culture and healthcare. It is really a lot and extremely varied. I’ve heard of such thing as a cognitive science major which seems to combine most of my interests but my uni does not offer it unfortunately… My indecision has been getting me extremely stressed and I’ve been getting anxiety attacks and breakdowns because of it.

Help please?

The first thing to know is that if you are currently a sophomore in college, many STEM majors may add some time to your degree and make it difficult for you to finish in four years. If costs are a concern, I would check to make sure that you actually could finish a computer science major in the next two years if that is your goal. (There’s nothing wrong with taking more than 4 years to graduate, but if you only have that in the budget it’s worth considering).

In architecture, this is almost certainly the case. I wouldn’t major in architecture unless you were relatively sure you wanted to be an architect.

User experience/design is a good field for someone sort of interested in technology with a great interest in psychology and art/design. You could major in psychology and minor in computer science, and later get a master’s in human-computer interaction.

What university do you attend?
