Too many positions .... Bad?

Alright, I am the president of two clubs and the vice-president of another two clubs. My entire schoolweek after school is filled with clubs and ECs. The thing is, lots of people here are saying that colleges tend to look down on a wide and large number of ECs. Is this true for someone in my position? (I really don't want to reveal myself to others in my school who browse CC so let's say that the clubs that I am in are nationally-known and not just BS ones...) I also have my academics (6 APs this year) to worry about, so can anyone provide any tips to balance the two?

If you enjoy your ECs and have good grades, I'd say list it as it shows that you are a skilled time manager....if your grades are just above average, I'd say edit the list.

I'm kind of in the same spot, but I hope that since I've been in most of my clubs since freshmen year and have held officer positions will make them think that I am not a serial joiner.

getting to a post of any organization (unless its got like 3 people in it) is something.. and to do it for mutiple is good.. thats a good set of EC's

But as isleboy said, dont make it look as though you compromised ur academics for this... and if you show ur involvement, that will clear any doubts about whether you join for the heck of it

I don't see any reason not to list all of them, especially if you show that you care about all of them (by listing the hours/wk spent on them if the college asks for it, in your essays, etc.)

Even if it looks like you've compromised your academics for it, put it down. I see no reason not to, as it may make up for a lack of academic accomplishments. Not that it looks like that is a problem for you, as you are taking such a rigorous load.

BTW, I'm just talking about those 4 clubs. If you were involved in a ton of different things, you may or may not want to list them, especially if they weren't that important. For example, you don't want the fact that you were president of a club to be lost because you it's in the middle of a list of a ton of clubs.

Offices at hs clubs are good, but they don't bowl over top colleges. Being head of the debate team that went to nationls and did well is a whole didn't thing than being pres of nhs or key club. What's important is to have one EC where your efforts over the year show genuine passion, committment and accomplishment.

thank you guys. learned a lot.
