Too many recommendations?

I am planning on getting 1 counselor recommendation and 2 teacher recommendations, but I am also wondering if it would be beneficial to include a recommendation from my chess coach, which is the extracurricular I am most committed to. If it makes any difference, here are the colleges I am applying to (although I probably will get rejected by several of them): University of Chicago, Cornell University, Rice University, Emory University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, University of Virginia, College of William and Mary, New York University, and University of Notre Dame

Thanks for your response.

Are you planning to apply for scholarships? Many times the scholarships request recs from non-teachers. My DS is using those for leadership/community service scholarships. Otherwise, unless the recommendation letter tells something so completely different about you, I would not add it.

Agreed. Don’t send additional recommendations to the colleges unless they’re providing something significant beyond what’s in the teacher and counselor recs.
