Too many recommendations?

I was wondering if schools don't like to see more than a certain amount of recommendations. I'm looking to transfer from a cc in utah to any of the following to Major in Finance and Philosophy:

GWU (my first choice)
American
Drexel
SMU
Tulane
Northeastern
Boston College
Fordham

I have kind of a different situation. Long story short - graduated in 1998, went to early college, had some family issues and ended up with a crappy GPA and a lot of W's. During my break from school I worked as a legal assistant a lot of large law firms in Utah, San Antonio, Philly and D.C.

Since returning to school, I have a 3.8 (hopefully a 3.9 after this semester).

I have the following offers of recommendation:

Partner at a major U.S. law firm who I worked for.

Former instructor from my criminal law course I took in the summer who is a District Attorney here in Utah.

Current Math teacher.

Current History (Americanization/Immigration class) instructor.

Current Intro to Business instructor (who is dean of the business department at my school).

Any suggestions on what to use? send so many? send them all?

Thanks!

I was under the impression that 3 LORs was the maximum one should submit. Colleges will probably ask for 2 professor LORs. I think it matters less who that LOR is from, and more what the LOR says about you. Ask the profs who know you the best.

^^^I agree totally. I’m not familiar with the specifics of all of the schools you’ve listed, but for the usual requirement, you should send 2 instructor LORs and one supplemental. Ask the instructors that know you best and will have the most to say about you and your academic work; for the supplemental, ask someone who will bring out some different about you. Schools aren’t going to be impressed by WHO writes your LOR, but rather what they say about YOU.

For the supplemental, should the recommender just send a letter separately since there usually isn’t a form for supplemental recommendations?

Yes, that’s fine, just be sure that they have your correct identification information so that the letter can be matched up with your application.

Great, thank you!
