*Prep courses are not transferable

During the first 4 semesters i was working full time (with overtime) which hindered my focus. I quit that job to focus on school Starting Semester 5, however, this last semester i took way to many semester units and most professor did not accept my late work.

Here is My Questions: Do i still have a chance for CSUs???(maybe UCs)?

Do I have a chance for financial aid if i retake 3 of those last Fs in the summer?

Thanks in advance! Be sincere its ok.

I was once in your situation, but also getting bad grades in unnecessary courses. Depending on your major once you transfer, 4-year schools only take in the courses they require for your major (Every 4-year school’s requirements differ from each other) and they use that to calculate your GPA as well as to see whether you’ve completed the requirements (Mostly GE courses). But don’t lose hope, I was able to be accepted to most CSUs, two UCs, and several out-of-state universities with a 3.2 GPA. Try not to repeat in core courses if your majoring in engineering, you don’t want to constantly repeat in every math/science/engr class because supposedly in weighs your GPA down quite a bit because you repeated in them. I understand it’s frustrating now, but try not to overload yourself with too many hard courses all in one semester, and don’t try to take too many courses in the summer, spread out the hard courses from semester to semester. I’d say after this semester, I would only focus on getting only Bs and As, I know it’s tough task, but that is what I had to after getting mostly Ds, Fs, and Ws on my transcript. I was able to alleviate other courses to improve my GPA (Don’t know if all community colleges have this), but still, that doesn’t mean that the school you want to transfer to will alleviate those bad grades as well. For financial aid, I believe that most community colleges in California offer the BOGFW (Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver) which helps pay for tuition, then there is EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services) for help with paying for books, and then most independent students are offered the full pell grant amount (About $5,500-5,750). Once again, you always have chance in transferring to a CSU, UC, or any other 4-year school no matter what the circumstance you are as far as academics are concerned that is. Hope this helps!!

thank you for your much needed reinforcements.I am considiered an independent, however, I dont think I meet the academic progress requirement for FAFSA. I badly need aid, and i don’t want to continue to rely on Library books and computers.

turns out I recieved a C in anthro and D in Political Sci…so my GPA remains at an even 2.0. I will try to boost my gpa to 3.0 by the end of summer.

Depending on the amount of units you are taking this summer. I don’t know if your gpa will go up to 3.0 even if you earn As and Bs, but I could be wrong. I don’t recommend taking more than 2 courses this summer especially if most of the courses you plan to take are demanding. I have experienced firsthand taking both physics and calculus II did to my grades and never did same thing again. What are you planning to major in by the way?

Hello, and thanks for responding. my cc offers 2 six week summer sessions which i plan to take 2 courses each. (Hist 2 & Alg 2) (Speech 1 & Phil 1)
Im interested in transferring to CPP as a Science, Technology, and society major. urgh, i just want to pass this math course to move on to stats!!!

Are you taking courses based off the IGETC? You might already know by now, but there’s a site called assist.org that you can use to see what courses you need to take at your cc for your major that you plan to study in depending on which UC or CSU (Other 4-year schools I believe) you want to transfer to.
