Too many schools--I cannot decide.

First of all, I’ll list out where I’ve been accepted/denied so you can get an idea of what I’m like. Before any of you scold me for applying to so many schools–I applied because I was scared of rejection from most, if not all of the schools. However, things came out better than I expected.

That being said, here is my list:

Accepted:

UIUC
UMich
Northwestern
JHU
UCI
UCD
UCLA
UCB
Columbia
Cornell
Penn

Waitlisted:
Princeton
Stanford

I was looking for schools with reputable engineering departments. Tuition is not a factor (although it initially was) at this time. Thus, I think it will come down to academics, location, and FEEL. Personally, I have narrowed this list down to several schools, which I’m still debating between:

UCB
Columbia
Cornell
Penn
JHU

I am looking to major in Chemical Engineering, but would like the option to switch because I am indecisive at times. The weather is not of much concern since I’m from Alaska–nothing is as cold as the weather up here. Thus, every college will be a pleasant change.

Personally, I am kind of leaning towards Penn because

Berkeley is too large (despite awesome chemE department)

Cornell’s engineering reputation scares me?

JHU seems boring?

Columbia lacks a close-knit community?

I would like to know other people’s take on this. Also, what would you do? I am visiting Penn and Columbia in the next two weeks, so I’ll have a better feel for the two eventually. Sorry about the length of this post.

go with your gut. every school is going to have good and bad factors--tag the schools whose bad factors you think you can live with, and whose good factors you don't think you can live without. and think about where you want to LIVE. remember, this place is going to be your home for the next four years.
