Too many units?

I have planned out my schedule and I am comfortable with the course load/breadth but I am just wondering if taking so many units (120 puts me at potential graduation!) would harm my chances to some of the top privates....

Do you think I need to trim down the list? If so, which courses? I am a finance/econ major but I am interested in each and every course on my list....

Thank you!

you'll have almost no life :P

Actually here is my list of EC:

AGS, Business Club, PTK, PSAT Tutor, internship at two companies (one is my dad's though), domain broker and website developer.

I am in my first 20+ semester here but I am really not feeling any pressure yet. Perhaps the semester just started so maybe I really won't have a life as we go further into the sem.....

:(

But then again if you look at my schedule, 2 units per semester are dedicated to service learning (covered by my ec) and 1.5 more are sports....

So basicly I am under 20 for every sem except spring 08...(which is the only sem I am somewhat worried about. I mean, besides art history, the other five courses aren't really cake walks. Esp calc 2 and poli sci honors with a really tough prof)

I'd be more worried about the winter '08 schedule..

Public Speaking doesn't really require much time...

Accounting might be tedious as hell (15 hours at class each week) but its rather easy....

And Psych Honors....ya the professor is also the honors director and she can be pretty tough. So thats a toughy here.

But I got no clubs or anythnig during winter so that should free up alot of time.

You're going to need to explain why you took these courses very well on your essays, because many top privates will disfavor you (IE why you took a measly 7 units your first semester). I called Cornell and they said it will be OK as long as you can justify your excess units on your essay. So if you can justify these units, it's fine.

Edit, now that I look at the classes in detail, holy ** that looks intense. Are you sure you can go through all of this and maintain a competitive GPA?

The 'only' reason colleges don't like too many units is that they are afraid you are just there to take 5 units and get a degree right? But aren't we required to stay there at least 2 years anyways? And if necessary, can't I just write a letter and say I forfeit, lets say, 30 units?

I mean the only reason I took all these excess units is that I want to...most of them doesn't fulfill anything at all....so i am really worried that is not a good enough reason.....(altho i do have a valid reason for the 7 unit semester)

And is my schedule really that bad? I am positive, at least for my current semester, I can maintain a 4.0. But it seems the subsequent semesters are much harder....maybe I cna drop a course or two along the way if things get out of hand.....

Well who knows, maybe your a genius. I'd flounder with that.

ur schedule is insane!!! im takin 17units rite now and I am dying...

Hmm its quite the norm at my school actually....at least in the honors program...

I personally know 2 people who are taking 25+ semesters....and I barely know anyone in my honors program....

hey! i'm taking 23 units and its a breeze due to my incredible luck of being in a teacher whose philosophy is if-u-are-here-then-u-will-pass.

last semestre i took 15, but it was difficult because i had two history classes and an english class, all three of which require writing good papers.

25 units FTW! 2 x calculus, physics, chemistry, english, research, +seminars

its not that bad if its what ur good at. im slightly worried though, i might get an A- in one of my calculus classes due to a professor change midway through the class.

my 30 next quarter will be the tester, Applied lin algebra, DIFF EQs, and MVCalcII

now the thing that gets me, whats with the oscillation. are you trying to kill yourself and then take a long break. why not just avg everything out to get a more normal schedule?

and what the hell is service learning 4?

I love the quarter system....wish my school offered that so I can take all these classes and not worry about going over the limit.

Actually I won't have a long break or in fact, any break at all. I am fully booked for the two years at cc. And since the UC caps the units at semester 70, I am basicly just taking 40 units for nothing....and in fact, I don't even know why the hell I am doing this...my friend called me a unit whore..and i think he is right...lol

Service Learning is like you earn credits by doing volunteering work...1 unit = 20 hours of service......but it doesn't really transfer to most colleges though...

lol unit whore, hit 114 units and get 4 degrees at least (even though they are useless)

I'm willing to bet that come Fall 07..he's going to start feeling the heat. By the time he hits Spring 08, he'll be in an inferno. An inferno of neverending school work, that is. I'm a pessimist...his choice of classes wouldn't be the fastest way to end a 4.0 (if he didn't end it already).

his schedule reminds me of high school

ugh.

Is it me or are you the only person in the world that has a courselist that laps perfectly?

My schedule is like m/w 9-11 and 2-3 and like t/th 8-11 and 3-5 and fri 2-3...... There's just no way for me to take that many units and be able to get good grades. I'd spend too many hours driving to and from school instead of studying. And I'm taking 17 units.

Is your schedule perfectly lapped? 1 class after another for 4 days and like 7 hours each day at school? If so, then go for it.

I still don't understand why you want to take some of the courses but w/e i'd say your transcript looks good.

Don't worry i'll make sure he keeps his 4.0 this semester lol. And Trivia stop sucking at badminton I want a new partner

I dont really understand why you would possibly take precalc and college algebra... dont waste your time with college algebra... and 23 credits.. theres no way you'll fit it in one day.. My fall scheduel I have 17 credits and I will be at school 14 hours for 3 days a week. Looking at your scheduels you havent had to juggle more than 10 credits yet and now you are looking to go to 23? I think you should definetly rethink that or work your way up taking credits. I also have 17 this semester and it is pretty tough finding time for every class.

Writing papers sucks but doing math hw sucks even worse. Makes for an even harder class than English in my opinion.
