Too much for one semester?

So my plan for this fall was to take Calc 1, Bio 2, Chem 1 (w/ lab and possible problem solving class), and Physics 1 (also w/ lab and possible problem solving class) - 17 credits

I told this to my counselor and she freaked out saying it was way too much and that I should focus on maintaining my gpa and such. I'm at a CC right now and plan to transfer to Davis as a neurobiology major, so my thinking is, if that course load mentioned above is too much, how do I expect to handle multiple science courses for my major as well as med school. I was advised to take one science class which is also what she said in fall '08. I followed her advice and my semester right now is so light it's ridiculous. I understand her concern for my gpa, but is this course load really too much???

I don’t think that’s bad  I mean you should be able to handle that or at least see this as training for med school :D

I disagree entirely. There’s a middle ground between 1 math/science course and 4.

Do you disagree with my counselor or the second poster?

Nobody can say whether that courseload will be hard or manageable for you.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but to me the bigger issue is that you would take all those pre-reqs at a community college.

That used to be my concern also but I have no choice BUT to fulfill those prereqs at a CC since I won’t be allowed to transfer to a university without completing them for my major.

good idea goldshadow, I was wondering that too…

and I correct my other statement…I guess just cause i was able to manage your courseload, doesn’t mean you will…so I guess it really just depends on you  sorry for the wrong advice

I’ve done a similar schedule and it worked out fine, but that’s me. Her concern is valid because while med school is of course harder, you’re still green to the whole college academics thing. Once you’re more experienced, piling difficult classes together won’t be as big a deal.

Unreasonably too much!

Thanks for the input everyone, I won’t be able to do the above schedule cause most all the times for the classes conflict! I’ll be saving ochem and physics for when I transfer, and that way I can get some volunteer work under my belt too! Hopefully I’ll be able to handle 4 sciences once I transfer.

For medical school admission you need a high GPA. Since med schools admit English majors who excell in the few med school required courses as readily as science majors, don’t think manageing a heavy load will impress them.

Too many labs!

Actually I was thinking on taking so many classes for timing purposes, not because I think it will impress the adcom. I don’t think CC’s in general will impress any adcom.

lol thats nothing… compared to what most bio/ chem majors take…

im taking bio 2, calc2, orgo 1, phys 1 and span 2 right now…
