I am a woman who is interested in pursuing fine arts as a major; My choice of school is NYU because I work in Chelsea. Problem is, I'm 34 about to earn my B.S. in Paralegal Studies and I want to know if there would be a problem trying to apply to NYU at my age. I mean, I think I'll be intimidated by classmates younger than me.

I don't know...I'm sorry if i'm not making sense.

Brinah72: I just turned 37, and I've been going to school part time for 2 years now. Are you married, do you have children? I am married, and I have two kids, which makes it a little harder, but I am here to tell you that it is not too late to start over. Get your BA, but if you want to start over with a new BA/BS, go for it. But look around, some schools are friendlier to non-traditional students than others.

Irishmom, I am a single mom of an 11 year old; I get a lot of help with her. I'm considering attending the adult program at NYU preferably in fine arts. Or, i can get my B.S. and enroll in the MFA program instead. Thanks for the input Irishmom!

There are some nontraditional students at almost every university, as far as I know. Some are even in their forties and fifties. It doesn't seem to be unusual to go back to school at 34.

Brinah, back when I was in nursing school, one of my classmates was in her mid thirties, married with two pre-teen children. We all loved to have her in our study groups, she added so much to our discussions.

A friend of mine now is back in school at the age of 51. She is loving it and seems to be well received by her classmates who are the same ages as her children. Go for it!
