Too old?

I am an international applicant from Germany and we have a different school system than in the United States. Apart from the 13 years of school, I have to do one year of military service. That is, I will be attending university with the age of 20. If this will be in the states, most of my mates will be 2 years younger. Do you think that this is a problem in general, that is 1) for admissions and 2) for the social network in general?

No problem. Probably an advantage.

age is no problem, there are a lot of freshman where I am currently who are 20 and older... of course there aren't transfers here.

But being 20 at a normal college will be no problem, if you can make friends easily, you should have no problem with it, age really isn't a factor with anything.

American colleges are much more diverse age-wise than European colleges. My father got a B.A. in history from U of Michigan when he was 78 years old. So, 20, that's not a problem.

My son will turn 20 in November as a college freshman. He did an extra year of high school as the result of switching schools at junior year (2nd junior year). There are plenty of kids coming out of prep schools, in particular, who are 19 and 20. Don't worry a bit.

No it won't be a problem at all. I know some 16 and 17 year olds who are starting college and I myself will be 19 when school starts. Don't worry about it.

I'm going to be twenty this June and heading to college in August. An incoming international freshman there will be twenty-one. While it may not be the majority, it's not as peculiar as it may seem. :)
