Took a risk and blew it...any hope left?

Unweighted GPA is not a better indicator of someone’s academic ability. Do you think that a student who has taken mostly regular courses and has a 4.0 is more capable than a student who has taken mostly AP courses and has a 3.9? Your logic is flawed. And for the record, I can handle criticism very well. By suggesting that affirmative action is the only way that I can be accepted to Columbia, you are not simply constructively criticizing me, you are insulting me.

Stephennn, no one said anything about anyone taking AP courses to be competitive.

you pretty much did.

LW trojan… bro if thats the kind of character u showed on ur essays then ur in.

props.

yeah dude, you seem crazy worked up over a chances thread. if you didn’t want to know someone’s candid opinion perhaps you shouldn’t have posted anything.

i was being serious brother hes showing integrity and hes sticking by his guns. thats what they want to see. thats the difference between an accept and a reject

…i was serious too?

OK, went to sleep and pretty much missed half of this conversation…LW, saying that affirmative action can get you into Columbia is not an insult in any way IMO. Many people have said that to me in this thread, and I believe to be true. As I stated already, I’m do not think of myself as a qualified applicant to Ivies, but I thought what the hell and applied anyways. And to clarify, I NEVER SAID OR EVEN IMPLIED THAT MY STATS WERE BETTER THAN YOURS!!! STOP TRYING TO FLAME ME IN EVERYTHING THAT I’VE POSTED RECENTLY! I just gave you an honest chance, and you still can’t get over the fact that I wasn’t the only person to do it. Just chill out…

What did UF have to say?

They said that they take applications after the deadline on a rolling and space-available basis until March, so I applied, basically as an experiment now, and I sent a letter of apology noting how/why I missed the deadline and how I really like UF, while also making a a bet with my counselor that if I miraculously get in, he has to tell my story to every student he teaches next year. That second part isn’t in the letter lol. However, a sort of gut feeling tells me that I might just have wasted $30, but it was all for the sake of an experiment.

Thanks dubaibliss

-Columbia - pretty high reach
-Cornell - high match
-Georgia Tech - high match
-University of Texas- Austin - high match
-University of Southern California - high match

-Columbia- high reach (mediocre SATs, low class rank)
-Cornell- high reach
-Georgia Tech- match
-University of Texas- Austin- match
-University of Southern California- high match/low reach

Although I highly doubt that anybody will bother to look at this post, I have applied to four other schools since the creation of the thread, even though they are pretty much safeties, other opinions would be appreciated. They are,

Florida State
University of Miami
Texas A&M
University of Florida- Applied two months after deadline lulz, but they still accept them. More of an experiment if anything really. Did include a really good letter explaining the late app though.

I hate double posting, but this was too good to pass up…

5000 VIEWS FTW!!!

Cornell-Reach

yeah… your numbers don’t look too promising for columbia/cornell, especially for engineering. activities seem good, and being Mexican gives you a huge boost. you never know though, don’t put it out of the question. good luck!

Some might call this a deplorable bump, but I call it…

MY 300th POST! I am now a regular ol’ member! In less than a month on CC, I need to find this thing that you guys call a life.

SH|T. I just realized that it was the 299th…next thing on the agenda after finding a life is learning how to count consecutive numbers.

OK, so I got an interview request from Columbia, does this help my chances there at all?

Better interview than no request. Friend got a request too and he’s also URM. I guess it must be interview season. Good luck and don’t get nervous.
