Took ACT w/ writing once; do I have to again?

For colleges that require the ACT w/ writing, if you have already taken the ACT w/ writing once, will they accept other ACTs taken without the writing portion?

I'm happy with my writing grade, but I'd like to raise the composite score. Do I have to take the writing section again?

Most that require writing will not consider a score unless the writing is included. Some that require writing will consider your highest ACT composite score even it is from a test without writing as long as you have submitted at least one ACT test with writing (one that I know of that does that is UIUC). So it depends on where you apply.

some colleges say yes, and some say no. better check with the ones you plan to apply to to be sure.

or take it anyway just to be safe.
