Last year, I took AP psych class online. It will be on my transcript. However, my school did not register me on time and thus I passed the deadline.
What should I tell Harvard in my common app (or elsewhere)? Is it even okay to report an online AP class if my school does not offer a single AP class?
Taking an on-line AP class shows Admissions that you are doing something above and beyond what your high school offers. That’s good! Unfortunately, as you didn’t take the AP exam, Admissions cannot compare you on a national scale to other test takers. So, that’s not so good.
That said, many of the ivy league schools do not grant accelerated credit or advance placement for a student taking AP Psych. It’s almost as if the ivy’s consider AP Psych as “AP-Lite” and don’t believe that the curriculum covers the same material as they offer. So, bottom line: Don’t sweat it. Even if you had taken the AP test, it wouldn’t have mattered in the long run.
