So freshman year was rough and I decided to make Chem 101 pass or fail to relieve some of my stress. I’m taking Chem 102 now and am on track to make an A. What can I do to negate my P in Chem 101 to prove to med schools that I can handle the course material? Should I take more upper level Chem classes besides Organic?
All pre-req classes must be taken for a grade or they do not fulfill admission requirements. You may need to retake Chem 101 for a grade.
But you could email specific medical schools admission offices and ask if they will allow you to substitute an upper level chem class WITH lab for Chem 101. You would need to take an inorganic, analytic or physical chem class, not additional organic or biochem.
This is your only issue. If you get an A in Chem 102 and orgo I’m not even remotely worried about your ability to handle Chem 101 material.
Would be surprised if any school doesn’t allow this. They don’t require the intro courses specifically, they generally require 2 years of chemistry with lab.
