Hey so I took the ACT five times and my score dramatically went up each date junior year (23,27,28,30,33).Will colleges consider my 33 worse than someone who took it twice or so? Or do they really just consider your highest composite from an individual date? I would thank if anything my score improvement shows perseverance and would not hurt make my 33 seem any less as good.
Thanks for the reply

Wow, very impressive in going from a 23 to a 33. Kudos. Almost all schools (except UPenn, Cornell, and a few others) allow score choice, meaning you have the ability to pick what you send in. For example, you can only send the 33 if you’d like. Or if you wanted to only send the 23 and the 33 that’d be an option too. :)

It probably depends on who’s reading your app, but it seems like the general consensus on college confidential is that taking it more than 3 times is detrimental. No offense or anything, but it doesn’t seem like someone is 33 material if it took them 5 tries to get there. But back to the main question, some colleges consider all scores (and these are the ones that will probably not be so good to you), and some only consider your highest (which will be good for you.)

Ok thanks guys. Yeah it never struck me that it could be a bad thing. I think it’s okay though because the best majority let you pick your scores to send I’m correct?

*send in. would this possibly show perseverance or look fine? I want to apply to Carnegie Mellon and I know they view each test dates scores. However, my final date was way above their averages in terms of composite and math and English. Do these scores still work well for Carnegie or not because I took it so many times?

May I ask what state you are from?

Why haha? I’m from north Carolina

Also nhdmaniac I checked online I can choose and one individual date (33) to send to colleges. Only a ultra prestigious universities require you to send them all

Your scores/the number of times taken reminded me of a friend from high school… Trying to see if it was her

Do you think I’m alright since I showed progression and ended up with a great school?

*score. Like my admissions will still be just as good right?

I think you are fine having taking it 5 times. I think a student is allowed to take the ACT 10 or 12 times, so you are fine w/5. With the vast majority of colleges, you can choose which score to send. You could send only 1 of them or all 5. I would just send the 33 to the colleges you are applying to and they will never know you took the ACT 4 other times. My daughter took the ACT 4 times, and she only sent the scores she wanted to. She ended up getting accepted into all 6 colleges she applied to. She has several friends that took the ACT 4 or 5 or more times and they had no problem getting into the colleges of their choice either. I think you should be very proud of your 33 and not worry about how many times you took the test. Where are you thinking of applying?

Thanks for the reply! I am applying to UVA, William and Mary, VA tech, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon and probably a few others .
