So lets say i was an african american male with about a 3.7 unweighted GPA and a 2000 SAT (1350 M+CR) and good Ec's. I know this is kinda vague...but what would be my chance of admission. I looked on the website and the acceptance rate for african americans in 2005 was 59.9%

You would absolutely get in with a 2000 SAT.

You also might want to check out the following website:

Pages 3, 7 and 8, in particular.

ok cool..thanx

and nobody can say that you will definitely get accepted with a 2000.
I agree that your chances are high however, other things (recs, essays, etc.) are important also - not just hard numbers.

your chances are great

guarenteed i'd say if in state and very solid if out of state

This is true. But according to the data in the link I posted, the odds go up dramatically - to the 85+% range.

I got in with 2030 so it is possible

not saying its not possible. its actually not only possible but probable but you shouldn't guarantee people something because if he were to not get in ...that would suck.

^ I agree. I know two in-state URM with GPA 3.7 and 2000 on SAT who got waitlisted at UVA.

If they were hispanic, that's not surprising.

One of them was african american.

That is surprising. Maybe other parts of his/her application were lacking or the essays were hurredly written.

exactly my point, cavalier. Exactly my point.

African American's essays were really good. But, I think it is downtrend in his transcript.
