hey guys,

I have been a regular guest on this site for a few months now and finally decided to make an account after bombing my act score for the first time.

i am a senior, never took the act or the sat (taking the october sat in 2 weeks).

C: 30
E: 33
M: 30
R: 31
S (effed up): 24
Combined Eng + Writing = 32
Writing= 10

i never took the act before and this was my first time taking it. usually i got 28s or 30s on the practice tests. never had a problem with anything but reading and science.

i am applying to ivy leagues and good unis like john hopkins (ED there) etc. my question is, will the colleges seriously look at my composite? i am really disheartened by the score and my dreams of getting into a good college are slowly fading away. will the college notice the science section's score? since i am planning to major in computer science and journalism, and will mention those choices in common app., will the colleges reject me cuz of my science score? and my composite doesnt seems good, should i retake it in november?

my extra curr activities are pretty good and i can write 1001048134091390 times better than the way i am writing now so hopefully my essays will be great too. my gpa is 3.72 unweighted and 4.09 weighted. am i destroyed?

btw i have already chosen the send-my-score option which comes free with the registration and the scores are bound to go to hopkins and other state unis that i mentioned.

^Honestly, yes. With a 3.7 and a 30, I would not get your hopes up for schools on the level of Hopkins or the Ivies.

don’t think like this man, just kill the SAT and get a 2250+ and your ACT won’t matter.

I know my gpa sucks, but isn’t ED supposed to give a leeway for people like me? what i mean is that there are greater chances of getting accepted while being under ED… and while it might not be the best option, I can see some shimmers of hope.

any thoughts? recommendations to make up the gpa/act loss?

thanks bro, that’s what I am working on. i would rather die with my skeletons out than not get a good score in the SAT. its just too hard to forget these pains of gpa and the turmoil of act

^ I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think at many competative schools, like the ivies, ED is actually more competative because the applicant pool is stronger (as I understand it). I think the higher acceptance rates are a testament to the stronger applicant pool.

argh all right… what i feared is true
do you reckon I should retake the act in November and send the scores to hopkins again? it isn’t like an ivy league, is it? I mean it is certainly competitive but not as strongly as other bestest unis, right?

october 23* not november

Johns Hopkins is pretty far up there… but you’re right it’s no ivy. Since you’ve only taken the ACT once I would say go for it, especially if you are confident that you can improve signficantly.
