Honorable Mention: I haven't seen it yet, but I'm predisposed to adding "Spring Awakening." I luuuuurrrrrve the cast recording. Can't wait 'til I get a chance to see it.

Subtopic = Books, Movies, Plays you'd like to see made into a musical. Mine is "Jitterbug Perfume" by Tom Robbins although I can't decide if I'd rather see Nathan Lane or Ben Vereen as Pan.

I am surprised to see so many of you mention Carousel. I have not seen the stageplay (just the movie) but I did not like it at all. The score is good, but I had a really hard time with the idea that it's ok for a man to beat a woman if you love him. In fact, I remember watching with my daughter who was 12-13 at the time and having to tell her, "It is never ok for a man to hit you." Is the stageplay different, or am I remembering the wrong movie?

my list is HEAVILY contemporary, which kind of makes me wish I was savvier about old MT, but what can ya do? I love the new shows :)

Rent
Light in the Piazza
See What I Wanna See
Sweeney Todd
Sunday in the Park with George
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
The Wild Party (either! both!)
A Chorus Line
1776
Movin' Out

It's difficult to rank my top ten but I guess I'd have to put RENT as #1, simply because I've seen it so many times, having had a couple of relatives and several family friends who have been in it.

Would have to be Ragtime and I'm kind of sad that it isn't on anyone else's list.

Jersey Boys - have seen it a few times and love it more each time.

Cabaret - one of my favorites because of both the book and the music. I was lucky enough to see several different cast changes during the Studio 54 run. My two favorite emcees were Alan Cumming and Norbert Leo Butz (on tour).

The Boy from Oz - my mom knew Peter Allen and I have always loved his music. Hugh Jackman was perfection in the role.

Billy Elliott - one of the most enjoyable evenings I've ever spent in a theatre. Can't wait til it comes to North America.

Anything Goes - the production a few years ago in Stratford was as entertaining a show as I've ever seen onstage. So much great music!

Jesus Christ Superstar - seeing Ted Neeley reprise his role in his 60's and bring the house down was an amazing experience.

I have to combine two - Phantom and Les Mis - because the two best productions of them that I've seen both included Colm Wilkinson in the lead roles and I love watching him onstage.

Elegies: A Song Cycle which is the most recent show I've seen. Love Bill Finn's songwriting and this cycle of songs is both hilarious and heartbreaking.

(Two 'honorable mentions' for totally offbeat and non-traditional musicals that I have loved are Hair, and Hedwig & the Angry Inch.)

Ragtime

Les Miserables

The Drowsy Chaperone
